Broadway has enough of a sense of humor to put "SHOP WITH CONFIDENCE" on their site. Does that mean we should be confident shoppers or confident when shopping with them ? :)

I would assume that they don't have the cameras in, but don't expect anybody to pay $250 to ship it. Or maybe they have some knockoffs of the balsa show models.

Hey Rush, your approach is awesome. Just based on the entertainment value of this thread alone, I'm upping my order with you (I'll e-mail you regarding the additional gear). And at the risk of shooting myself in my "financial" foot, I expect that within about three months (or less) of receiving my gear, I won't remember or care whether I paid a few dollars more (or less) than the lowest price out there ... I will, however, always remember great service and good people to deal with.

Thank you sir! :) (Sly salutes too!)

You know that Don was threatened right? :( Unbelievable....

Sadly, I found that completely believable.
If only people didn't get so easily suckered by these places, they wouldn't have any business to protect.

Insane.

I will post this one more time, in case there's a magazine representative on here, that if photo and video magazines would stop allowing these guys to advertise in their pages, they would have no leg to stand on. Readers trust the magazine, which they assume is safe, and all its contents are approved. So they see this beautiful 2 pages spread with pictures and low prices, and think they nabbed a deal. They get on the "dealer's" gorgeous website, place an order, and wham. They get nabbed. It's just sad. :undecided

Abso-stinkin-lutely. I've often wondered that myself.

The evil step sister of capitalist glory practiced here at DVXuser.com!

That will obviously never happen, of course. Advertising rates would go up significantly, causing reputable dealers to increase prices...

Yeah, I know, but you never know. :) The universe eventually unfolds as it should, if all things are practiced fairly. Maybe the mag becomes $4.29 instead of $3.99, but people are happy to pay $.29 more for the editors' efforts, because there is a big note on the front of the mag that says, "All dealers advertising here checked for honest selling practices" so the mag sells more issues anyhow.

And maybe regular dealers get more business normally lost to Consolidated Thievery Inc., so they can afford a bit more for advertising, especially when they know there are not being lumped with thieves (and allegedly future cutthroats now). Heck it might be a boon for the mag, dealers banging on the doors trying to get that OK rubber stamp.

I think it all starts with an editor saying, "I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna place an order and see what happens, then try and cancel it, or return part of it." The people that work in these magazines buy Christmas presents too, and they don't want to be ripped off either. You'll eventually get one editor in there, and she'll say, "I'm not looking the other way, I don't care, I'm not endorsing these dorks."

Then one Video mag checks out its dealers - and it'll take a few years - but others may follow suit. I know, Utopian Bilge Pumping here, but you never know... It's nice to hyposthesize a better world.

Sure, this concept introduces bribery and shills into the mix, some mags possibly being paid off for the "certification", or the main editor gets a nice Japanese HVX200 or something, but eventually that runs its course too, since our laws take publication advertising fraud very seriously (there is a printed record of the offense) and you end up with, possibly, a better buying environment for the consumer. One call to Abel, Birns, B&H, etc. and you'll know they're on the up'n'up, but one call to (x)photo, and you know they are pushing this and that on you, charging you $275 for shipping, etc... Problem is, most people order on the web, where all the sites look nice and professional. This concept heads the consumer off at the pass, before the ambush.

I agree with Rush. Many many of Fly by night companies have contacted me willing to pay my rent if i push thier unauthorized DVX's.. and I always turn them down. They usually get really mad then go away. Heck I even have turned down some authorized dealers away because I know they have treated my users wrong.

I will never advertise an unauthorized dealer on DVXuser.. because i hold my self morally responsible for who i direct people too.. kinda like if you told your best friend to buy a camera from B43 DIgital NY and they ripped him off.. it would reflect bad on you.

And that's exactly why this site is still here, and keeps growing every year.
Way to go Jarred!

Hey, Rush! Followed carefully the hot thread, I am impressed! I just want to ask the following (which might interest some other guys from Europe as well, I presume):

In case there is some certainty for PAL HVXs, sold from US (I bloody hope there is)

1. Is there a separate HVX PAL waiting list or is it the same?

2. Is the deal EVS offers the same for NTSC and PAL versions (same prices, packages etc.)

3. What are the conditions for the Int'l shipping (like preferred company, insurance, price to Budapest (Hungary) or Sofia (Bulgaria)) if you offer one?

In case EVS offers PAL version when it becomes available I am sure that some people would prefer to order it either directly shipped to their customs (which having in mind ridiculous prices in Europe might still be much better deal then just buy from home country) or shipped to a friend in US/Canada and then brought through the "nothing to declare zone" again to home countries. Personally I will buy from US and EVS in specific in case PAL version is offered. Thanks in advance for the info, Rush!

Hello Osmicata, thank you very much for your confidence, sir, and I wish I had good news for you, but unfortunately no US dealer is authorized to buy PAL cameras from Panasonic America, including EVS. I have heard good things about Expandore, and I know B&H sometimes has well-labelled "imported" cameras being sold in the used department, with no US warranty, etc. (they are very upfront about this, they don't try and pass it off as a US camera)

If there is anything else I can do for you, advice, information, etc., please feel free to email me at rush@evsonline.com
Best of luck,
Rush.

Thanks for the quick info, Rush!! Too bad for us the, PALs. It seems that we would have to come up with smth else. I was so hoping that could buy the PAL overseas. Anyway, this won't stop me from being a proud HVX user some day soon! Will post any useful info regarding North America as a source for PAL HVXs, if I find one.

PS Expandore you mean the Singapore guys (http://www.expandore.com/) or US office?

Cool please do post new info, I assure you there are other PAL DVXusers waiting to hear info. The only Expandore I know is the Singapore office. I have never heard anything bad about them. In fact, if you do a search here, you will see a lot of positive feedback. Make sure you read the whole thread, since at first it appears they are not a good dealer, but then others jump on and say they have done business with them. In fact this thread has specific info posted by DVXuser Balbina about overseas shopping and customs:

1, custom fees + tax
all online shops ships by ups, dhl and other
it means all packages are cerfuly checked
it means you will have to pay tax (amount in your country)
and you will have to pay custom fees
both are very high in Poland.
2, guaranty - we asked in polish panasonic service
and they said:
- if the camera was bought in hong kong, malesia, usa
taiwan - and now needs to be serviced - you will pay
for service by your self, than you have to go to place where
it was bought to get money back (upon bills).

Also, I just wonder how people are planning on paying for their projects if they get heated about a couple hundred bucks. I know money's important, but what does a couple hundred bucks matter to the bottom line?

Amen, bro. Too many people nitpicking over a few $$$ on a large purchase. Sometimes I wonder about some of the perspectives on here. I won't say that Money isn't an issue, it is... Cost is one of the many reasons why I'm choosing the HVX200 over the XLH1. For just slightly less than MSRP of the XLH1 (which apparently all dealers must sell at that price?), I can get the HVX200, 3x4GB P2 cards, clear filter, a damn nice new tripod (compared to the $180 P.O.S. I'm using now) a couple more batteries and a bag. Hmmmm..... Not to mention, the variable frame rates, true progressive CCD, and 4:2:2 color space had me sold. Even if the resolution is a bit lower than the XLH1. Oh, well, now I'm rambling... I'm sure many of us feel the same way or else we would've unpacked our XLH1s by now.

And also I think that anywhere around $6k for a camera that can do what the HVX seems capable of is one hell of a bargain. But that's just me.

Not just you. I guess that's where I was going in that last paragraph...
