Where do you keep your Zoom H4N when shooting?

Hmmm. I'll try that with the mid-side option turned on, when mounting on a stand near my subject. For on-camera mounting, I should probably stick to conventional X/Y orientation for stereo imaging that matches what's in the frame. Is that what you'd recommend?

Yeah. Normally I am keeping the H4n in standard X/Y 90 degree pickup configuration.
One of the only exceptions might be when I am trying to mic both the horn and woofer of a PA stack. Then as I mentioned earlier, I will mount the H4n sideways aimed more at the PA systems horn about 20 degrees off axis of it. Then the H4ns mic capsules are set to 120 degrees for recording. Since the capsules are focused more on the horn, the audio is crisper, with audio from the woofer bleeding into the mix.
