When does voting end?

Thanks man!

Good advice on Gage's system, I'll probably base my votes on a something like that.

Good post, Jason. I rate the films on five criterion:

1) Story/Writing
2) Acting
3) Sound
4) Cinematography (this includes lighting, angles, etc)
5) Theme/Requirement compliance (was it a good Twilight example? Was the ball there for a reason or just tossed in because it had to be?)

I give each of those categories a score out of 10 as I watch and go back through the film more times when necessary to get an accurate number. Then I average all the scores together and round how I feel is proper for that film.

I tend to just give a film an overall rating based on how I respond to it. Some people may not have access to the best equipment, or actors; so I feel it's fairer to grade on story, or direction/editing choices that really wok for me.

If something that I think is a 1 all the way through suddenly has an interesting moment I'll probably give it a few extra points. I don't really apply a science to it. As someone once said cinema is more than the sum of it's individual parts. I think that's why the old scoring system was changed.

Same here, I was going to throw out the ones that used $30k Red's and spent a lot of money but decided that wouldn't be fair to exclude anyone so I'm trying to devise a little system that takes into account the camera's that were used, money spent ect. I have seen some really good stuff shot on camera's you can buy used for $1500 or less.

Talent & Money are not the same.

very true, I've seen a lot of s*it shot with film/red cameras!

Hopefully ours is not one of them. lol.

2 years ago we managed to place in this fest with a DVX and a budget of $60. So I think people generally are fair when it come to marking. It's not easy because not everyone has the same opportunity to shine, but I still feel the talent will stand out.

I'd take 'Primer' or 'Pieces of April' over Van Helsing any day.

i didnt even know there was a second round, guess it doesn't matter I'm not really comparing one film to another when I'm rating just on how good I feel they are on their own, how they make me feel, production value, story and so on.
And if they have credits :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

Well I for one vote on a simple system based on 1134 different criteria I then remove the lowest 7% and multiple it by 231, then I add 2pts for every movie that has a kid, 3pts for all movies containing an animal, 1pt for each Devil, and 1.5pts every time I see blood. I then divide that number by the number of times that I hear a word that is not pg-13 and subtract the number of references to Rogans ass, Penguins Mom or the way Mark Johnson smells. I then divide that number by the number of movies submitted (69) and it is just that simple.
Pauly

(wow that seemed a lot for a simple joke)

That's exactly how I do it too! Great minds think alike.

If my calculations are correct.... using my special abacus here... carry the 1...
The Accidental Hitman gets..... ...... ...... 242 stars. Is that what you came up with Pauly?

I vote simply on the enjoyment factor. the more I enjoyed it the Higher the star count. It is hard for me to critique technical mistakes in lighting, framing, sound etc. when I still need to work on mine. Some movies were Great, others were not. but I have to reward the effort some of these people put in.
