What's NEXT after the upgrade?

What is next?

Over the next week or two, is bug fixes, tweaking of the visuals, etc...

Also, over the next week or two will be examining the re-org further and preparing for the next phase of it. Best to ask about a particular forums location before getting emotional about it as it may already be planned to be moved, re-purposed, etc. Camera sections in particular still have a lot of work and some plans already for the next phase of the re-org. Some things may not have been. That will be part of the purpose of the next week or two will be examining traffic, reasonable feedback and suggestions, etc and taking it into account as planning for the next phase is under way.

Please try to keep cool and post your suggestions for re-org here.

already aware of audio, and ac cams and some of the locations of other camera sections as well... some of it is just there temporarily. some of it is still being thought about. Post your suggestions, questions, feedback here about it all. Just keep cool. If you come in here being all insulted or emotional over the preliminary placement of something, I'm likely to skim your post and miss your awesome feedback :)

Please keep in mind that we have like 2.5 million posts and like 260k threads and 90k members on this board. The re-org is more complex than simply moving some forums around (which was the first phase).

Also, the tabbed browsing feature... This has expansion plans in the works. Ultimately, you will be able to make your own custom tab and put whatever categories, forums, or sub-forums you want to put int here. So, everyone will eventually be able to have whatever structure they want of the forums for their "home page"

I like some of the changes, but not all. Before the latest change, I was one of those who selected the "older style" from the drop down menu on the main index page. There was something about the dark colors of the last style that I didn't like. The older classic style seemed more visually pleasing.

As to the current style, I like the gray text background. At least, I prefer it to the last version. For some reason, I don't care for the radio buttons next to thread titles. They seem too small and not as easy to distinguish the unread from the ones I've read. It gives me a feeling similar to doing some hand-eye coordinated task in a dimly lit room - frustrating.

In general, I'd like to see better contrast between those buttons and the background.

Thanks for your efforts and for listening. :)

I was an "older style" guy myself, and I too like how easily I could distinguish between read and unread.

My only other thought would be that the "Fest" section needs to be updated with the new Fest that starts ... tomorrow?!

hehe... new fest coming eventually... Just giving larry his time he needs to do his ground up re-build of the fest back-end code. And, sometime soon, I will need to figure out a new solution for hte front-end as well. It's next on the list after getting this upgrade stuff (and re-org) to a more happy place. Once we roll out a new fest, we'll be moving on to mobile web and native app development this year... Which will parallel future planned improvements to the live site here as well, as some things will go toward both the live site, and future mobile versions.

on the read vs. unread... been mentioned by you guys and the mods a few times, and is at the top of my list for styling improvements. "Make more visible clarity between read and unread threads".

On the list :)

Thanks for the feedback. The old style was just too far back in version and too broken by now for me to want to try to upgrade that one as well as building this one. but, i'm hoping this one will suit the needs of the "old style" folks with the return to classic colors... once we finish tweaking and taking your styling suggestions into account.

If there actually is a reasonable amount of people that preferred the most recent "blue on blue" style, I may dupe this one when we are done with it and provide provide the blue version as an option. But, for now, this one is looking like the foundation for the default style moving forward...

EDIT: On the fests... David J. did mention an idea for a mini-fest he was thinking about recently... Maybe if you guys pester him, he will do it, and give you something to hold you over until the main fests return :)

That would be great Jason.

Again, it's hard to distinguish between read and unread posts with the current style.

Hi Jason ... I'd love to see a section set up for musicians and composers for film. Right now they have no where to go and usually end up posting in audio.

noted. will deal with potential new forums once we're done dealing with the pre-existing ones in the next couple of weeks. feel free to keep posting up new forum suggestions in this thread though, and I will take note of them.

Much improved look Jason. Much more readable I think. Thank you for your hard work on our behalf!

If possible, I'd like to see one change. When I come to the forum every day I typically press the "New Posts" button (upper left corner). This results in typically eight pages of threads that have new posts, and this is shown as a page with four columns: Thread title, number of replies, last posting timestamp, and Forum. What I'd like to see changed is for that last column on the right to drop the word "Forum:" for two reasons. First, it's redundent: we all know a listing like "ScriptFest X: TrappedFest" is the name of a forum. Second, with my browser settings (I'm an old guy, I need to use bigger fonts so I can actually read stuff) the extraneous bit of text "Forum:" causes the darn thing to word-wrap. So all I see is "Forum:" which tells me exactly nothing. What I want to see is "ScriptFest X: TrappedFest" so I'll know whether to look or skip it, but that bit is wrapped to the second line which I can't see because of my bigger font size.

It's a lose-lose for guys like me. Either it wraps like what I describe above and I can't see it to read it, or I use a font so small that it doesn't wrap, so I can see it but can't read it. Oy.

This is undoubtedly a low priority for you, as it should be. But if you should happen to get around to making this change again, I would appreciate it.

Thanks Jason! Looking good. And thank you thank you thank you for making the reply text white instead of black. I can actually read what I'm typing again! Huzzah!
