What would you do with a 37k check?

My 1st Mac: Mac Classic (1986)

I'm right there with you Terry - My 1st Mac - the Mac Plus, also in 1986.

At 1MB of Ram (an no hard drive back them, remember?) that baby could purr...
The OS ran off a floppy disk (I can hear it now..."what's a floppy disk?")
Those black and white graphics just JUMPED off that 9" screen!

DAMN things have come a long way.
For the same money today you can get a Dual Core 2.3GHZ G5 and edit 1080P HD footage.

I feel old now.

D'oh! See, it's been so long ago I forgot the name of the computer. Mine was a Mac Plus, as well. Later, I had a Mac Classic, Mac Classic II, Quadra 660, G4 400MHz, G4 867 MHz, and Powerbook 1 GHz.

1MB of RAM? Puh-leeze. Luis, you were blingin' with that 1MB... my first Mac was the original, the Mac 128K. 128K of RAM, back in 1984. Couldn't barely run MacPaint on that thing...

I later upgraded it to 512k, boy was that so much better!

Dual G5 should arrive any day now. I'm assuming things have improved since 1984? :)

whatever you get, just remember that you don't have to spend it all now. Wait until you need something and then buy away. You could always set your next film's budget at $37k. :)

get all the stuff you need for your camera, sticks, lights,audio,mattebox/filters- really deck it out. That should set you back about $3-5K. Then put the other 30K into a CD, many are around 4%. Bonds, or maybe a good mutual fund. Or start up a Roth IRA if you havent allready...the future is commin, and it isnt pretty...

I agree. Trick out your rig with the necesities.

Nice matte box with filters. Good rail system. The g35 if those f*ckers ever decide to sell one.

And upgrade your post suite.

Then once you have your main tools take the rest and make a film. Sink every last penny into telling the story you want to tell.

Banks are for sissies. Savings are for grannies. And houses and cars are for parents. You wanna make movies? You got 40 grand. Make a nice one.

good luck dude.

terry, that was an interesting article. my so-called 'tude' wasn't twisted. i just posted info that i thought was correct. after reading your article i can see the real truth. don't get me wrong.

also, i was 3 years old when you got your first mac ;).

One of those Sony XD cams, the 350 one, that'd be pretty sweet. But that'd also probably use most of the check as well, and I don't know when it's coming out. But the super frame rate variability and the long record time...

Or an HVX and P2s. Either would be great.

Oh, and a Merlin thing.

I so wish I had 37 grand; I'm pretty sure if I crashed my car (not saying I want to, and not saying it's good you crashed yours), i'd probably get... somewhere around 50 bucks ;-)

First, as I haven't said so yet, Good to hear that you are safe and recovering from the accident.

With that dough, stuff the Merlin, get the Flyer! [/obvious]

And send some bling to PK, (and send me a few bucks too, so I can buy Rich's Master...)

Coffee.. Now I'm curious.... Who do you call? And what do you call them?

- Mikko
