what would my workflow be...?

I'm new to P2 and have tried searching for an answer but one topic says one thing, then another says something else...I'm confused.

I shot two 32GB cards worth of 1080/24pa footage using HVX200a and don't want to do something wrong and loose the footage as many shots were "1-time only" type things. (with natural lighting and sound matching up with action-like choreography)

I'm going to be using a mac pro desktop computer with FCStudio 2. - however the computer is not here yet, it is being shipped to me. And I need to empty the cards for tomorrow.

I have a windows toshiba laptop (however it only has an express card slot) and the duel adaptor from duel systems.

Now, what should my workflow order be to get the footage onto the laptop? (then perhaps onto a separate harddrive which I have (a 1TB).

and when do I write-protect the cards? or should I even do that?

sorry, but even just a basic 1-2-3 answer would help greatly (something like 1) load the utility software from the camera onto the laptop. 2) download ______ driver from ___website. 3) etc..)

thanks a bunch.

Write protect the cards first. Copy the footage onto the computer making a duplicate, then use the utility software, then edit.

so, click the cards so that the write protect switch is on. then place the card into the duel adaptor which is in the laptops' express card slot, then it should bring a window or something up asking me what to do with the card footage, and I will select (or click whatever allows me to) copy the footage.

then bring the copied footage into the utility software and do whatever from there, etc... into FCP.
?

thanks Noah.

You should just be able to make a folder on your external HDD named "card 1" or something. Your P2 card will show up as an external drive on your laptop. Just drag all the contents from the card (including "lastclip.txt") to the folder.

Then when you get your FCP Mac, just point Log and Transfer to that folder and it will read it like a normal P2 card.

thanks guys, I tried all that but nothing is working or happening on the computer.

is there a driver or something else I should download?

the laptop is using windows Vista. ....I downloaded the vista driver from panasonics site, and it doesn't work, telling me to insert a disc that came with the "mass storage controller" ...I tried the disc that came with the HVX and the duel adaptor's disc...and nothing works.

any help/ideas about what I should do when working with the duel adaptor and windows vista on a laptop?

I think you need both the P2 Driver and P2 Viewer installed.

Panasonics is a confusing website but there is a clearer one linked elsewhere in DVXUser.

Does your laptop have a PCMIA SLot?

no the laptop only has express slots. And windows vista. it's pretty new....and all that I have.

I know Vista has been an issue in the past, not sure if that's been cleared up by now. You may want to do some research on that.
I know there were some issues with some people about the order of installing drivers (P2 and duel adapter), check duel adapters website to be sure you follow their recommendations.
The customer support at Duel Adapter will also be a good resource. Call or email them with your peoblem and see what they offer.

Still not working with the Duel Adapter and windows vista...

It's asking for the driver software for the "mass storage controller". I insert the disc that came with the dueladapter and it says it did not find anything. I browse my computer and it finds nothing, yet I've downloaded all drivers for the DuelAdapter from the duelsystems website.

I also have the p2 management software....is there a p2 driver I'm missing that works with Vista ?

I downloaded the newest p2 drivers from panasonic site, and the problem is that it keeps asking for the "mass storage controller" and it's driver when I put the card into the d.adapter.

and when I check the duel adapter's information (by clicking the icon in the bottom right of the desktop) it says that the "D.Adapter is connected: working properly : Mass storage controller"

?

hi, I am also a new user, and this p2 thing is too much confusing, and you have to be a geek or something to figure it out and i am just doing that.
just read all these forums on dvxuser and buy berry green's bootcamp dvds if you want to save your time learning the hard way.
good luck

hi, I am also a new user, and this p2 thing is too much confusing, and you have to be a geek or something to figure it out and i am just doing that.

For many it's quite straightforward.

what issues do you have that you have been unable to resolve?

sorry to bump this again, but it's still not working.

The windows vista (home edition) recognizes the D.Adapter and says it's working correctly.

but when I insert a p2 card (write-protected) it see's something is there and asks me to install the "driver software for your mass storage controller".

my question is, what is my mass storage controller? I've already installed the driver for the D.Adapter and I have the p2 contents manager on the computer too.
