What shoulder mount / hand held solutions are people using?

I'm looking to get a shoulder mount / stabilizer for the GH1, not a steadycam. I've found that the footage can be pretty twitchy even though you think you are holding it steady. What do people recommend? I saw Rodney Charters using the redrock micro shoulder with the 5D. Has anyone had experience using this?

Cheers, Jon

DIY gunstock mount. Works great. Suffice to say I am on a trip to Chicago right now and did not bring it with me lol.

if your not into using much cash i think spider braces would be ok. but i cant comment on the quality of it since ive never used one.

If you're looking for a place to mount a microphone and possibly some other accessories, the DVtech MultiRig Pro works great. It's a little spendy, but if it's in your price range, I'd highly recommend it. Here's a link. If I find the time I'll try to post some pictures of my rig.

I think I'd much rather have a steady cam rig...

these shoulder mounts seem to be very limited in terms of shot selection don't they? good for commercial work, like a tv news camera guy or something... but for a filmmaker i don't think i'd like it. then again it'd be a great thing to have if i could have this + an awesome steady cam

Shoulder rigs are quick and easy though. A Steadicam can take a lot of time to set up and balance. I do agree that a Steadicam has a lot more versatility.

Just found this. Somebody stuck a GH1 on a Manfrotto Modo Steady 585. This was the result:

Wow that doesn't look good. Though I'm watching it on my shi*ty laptop in HD but I think there's a number of things wrong there... and don't think they are GH1 problems necessarily.

The AF is quite bad. It seems to be backfocused/struggling to pick her up. I've noticed this problem too, but I had my AF set to multiple area AF which is good for like sports theoretically... The other AF where you have to center them in the frame I suspect is what was used here, and it doesn't look like it's doing a good job. Manual Focus with skills seems to be the best option.

The operator does not seem skilled to me as well. I don't know what a Modo Steady is but it has to be a lot better than my free steadicam (tripod with legs folded in lol), but I think I could get as good a movement quality or better than what is pressented here.
