What mount is this lens?

Hi, I just bought a Vivitar 28mm 2.0 lens and I have no idea what mount it is. Can someone tell me please?

Thanks in advance...

Hmmm... I looked through it but it doesn't look like anything matches :(

Anyone else want to take a stab at it?

According to the Vivitar site, the cameras they have lens mounts for are, Nikon, Canon,
Pentax, and Sony.

My guess at the moment is Pentax... I never really had much to do with Pentaxes, so that's just a guess... (They did have a screw mount which just never set well with me...)

Thanks for that. It narrows it down. I will start looking on google for mount images until I can find one that matches...

Wait, well if it's not canon FD, and it's not Nikon or Pentax because I don't think any of them have just a little gap like that...hmmm....yes from google images it appears to be Sony. gap in a near solid metal ring.

The Sony mount did not exist when that lens was made. I think that looks like a Nikon mount but I really can't tell 100% from memory as I'm only a casual Nikon user - might be worth taking it up to a camera store and asking them if they can tell what it is, and/or see if they have some different cameras that you can mount it on to test. Lenses made in that era could have been Nikons, Canon FDs, Olympus M/Pentax K, or Minolta MD.

The Sony Alpha mount is I think based on the Minolta Autofocus mount, I don't know if the Minolta AF mount is compatible with the older Minolta manual focus mount, I believe the Sony Alpha mount is all electronic so an adapter wouldn't give you the ability to change the aperture.

Doesn't look like a Nikon lens that I've ever seen... the big flat bar sticking out just doesn't look like anything Nikon... the other thing is the little hooded flange...

The oldest Nikon lens I have is for a 70's vintage Nikon F with the external interlock for the meter. That one doesn't have the features of this lens in question.

I only had a Minolta briefly in the early 70's, and it was a fixed lens...

Perhaps what the object lesson from this discussion should be...

Don't buy a third party lens without knowing exactly what camera it was for...

Hahhaa... agreed, but it was $10 CAD and looks really clean. Plus it had a B+W filter on it as well! :)

If it looks like Sony, it is most likely a Minolta mount. Sony took over Minolta Camera division a few years ago. So Sony DSLRs are practically Minolta with Sony name on it. I had a Minolta A-1 camera (still have it) and when I had to send it for a recall repair, I sent it already to Sony.
Hope this will help.

Here's a picture off the web for a Pentax lens. Note the position of the 'lever' slightly inside the lens 'barrel' area and
its relationship to one of the bayonet flanges... If it is a Pentax K mount lens, it would appear that it is a 'non-auto'
since the posted images don't have the little 'electronic connector' series of contacts on the outer edge of the mount,
as can be seen on the lens below.

This looks really close to what I have. I did notice that the vivitar lens that I have says auto. I think that I will have to bring this in to a shop to determine what the mount is. I want to purchase an adapter for it and I need to be sure. Thanks for all of the help!

j1clark was right...

Just got back from the camera shop. It is a Pentax K mount. It mounted on the Pentax K1000.

Thanks for all of the help!
