what kind of lens do i need to get a shot like this?

if i drop my screenshots into screenshots from some other music video directors they are nowhere near as wide, heres a sample

my shots are as wide as the white part in that pic, others go from end to end on the red parts like this video does

Looks like anamorphic lens attachments (if they are using cams like the 7D)

You can always fake it in post too.

that particular video was shot on a big panasonic not a 7d dslr, i was just wondering how to do it, i will look into this, thanks

Don't waste the time. Get a very wide angle lens (a bit tricky on the 7D), and crop to 2:40 in post (1920x800). If you're enterprising, you can load an image into the camera that is 1920x800, then draw the proper framing lines with a sharpie on the LCD screen.

An anamorphic lens setup will cost you FAR more than you want to pay.
