C100: What is your job title?

One of my friends coined this one years ago*: Video Whore.

*Maybe he did, maybe he didn't, but it's still a good one no matter where it originated.

Just for the love of God do NOT call me a videographer. I despise that term. Whenever I hear it or someone referred to as such, I think low-end corporate, 'uncle-Bob shooting a wedding', any other negative you can think of, guy with a camcorder.
I slowly have come to terms and let it just roll off my shoulder when someone calls me a videographer but I still hate the word

Yes, that's the term the rest of humanity uses when they see a guy with a pro camera. Like it or not. Ranges from the guy in the back of the auditorium filming a 3rd grade dance recital, up to the one shooting a major TV episode on the street, we're all "videographers" in the public's eyes, regardless of what we call ourselves. So, live with it.

I don't mind videographer. When people call me a photographer it drives me nuts. Especially when they come up a stop in front of my video camera and pose.

The funny thing is, I've never really heard anyone in the "general public" use that term. It's usually someone that in some way or another is involved with video.

When I used to shoot a lot of news years ago, it used to crack me up when someone would ask me what newspaper I was with. This was the late 90's/early 2000's, so we're talking Betacam on my shoulder and newspapers didn't do video, even if they were on-line, yet.

Videographer is the standard term in the wedding industry. Even then, the clientele often mispronounce it --- not that I blame them. They used to just hire a photographer, but now they need a photographer and a "videographer." It kind of makes sense, despite its clumsiness. But hey, at one time someone criticized the word television for similar reasons.

Is videographer spreading to other industries besides weddings?
