What is a good lens/lenses to use for MUSIC VIDEOS?

Go with primes, you'll get better light. Vintage ones are even cheaper and give a more unique look. With music videos, anything is fair game though- unlike narrative or documentary work, you get to truly be creative and use whatever the heck you want. But low light, go for fast primes, like a good F/1.4. $1000 is more than enough, especially if you go vintage (my favorite lens, a 50mm 1.4 Nikkor, is around $100).

Unless, of course, you are looking for image stabilization (IS), in which case you're better off getting Canon L glass. In that case, $1000 might not even be enough!

I like using 30mm and 11-16mm with music videos myself. I like how wide lenses really pop the talent almost out of the video! :)

That's mostly what we shot this:

Some of the close up stuff was probably a 50mm max, but I didn't shoot with that lens myself (there were 2 shooters on both these videos, all 7D and t2i). Not that we haven't used other sizes, but these we use more than anything else.

I think I wanna go with the Sigma EX 30mm 1.4 and maybe the Canon 50mm 1.8. Or should I skip the Canon 50mm and go for another brand? Also, will I need an adapter to use the Sigma on my 60D?

if you buy the canon version of the sigma lens, you don't need any adapter

if you can live without autofocus, I'd go for either vintage glass, or samyang 35mm f/1.4 and 85mm f/1.4

the samyang 85mm f/1.4 is much closer to the canon 85mm f/1.2L or to the zeiss planar 85mm f/1.4 than to canon’s 85mm f/1.8; sure, it’s not nearly as good in terms of sharpness, but check out these bokeh tests!!

I love my Sigma 30mm 1.4, and RARELY use the 50mm. I do have a 85mm F1.4 Bower I use as well, very nice (no auto anything though).
