What I want from NAB 2012.

From what I'm hearing mst orders will be filled early March.

Interested as always to see what people announce at Nab. I'm thinking this year may see some second iterations of what we already have. Panasonic have liked announcing at NAB in the past so something to look out for.

Haha, I meant he will still follow NAB.

reference...
i hope my c300 arrives before NAB, then I don´t need to follow NAB anymore......

yeah, I got your sarcasm.
And you are probably right. No matter what you buy today you want the newer one tomorrow.......

And there is more at NAB than cameras ;-)

Good good. I am glad. Typing is so dry.

looking at the hpx250 and AC160
i dont see why a AF100 cannot have a big brother like the AC160 is to the HPX250 coming.
cal it HPF200. same innards as the 250 with some added functionalities like peaking and variable color temp & new oversized 4/3 sensor.

Hell, all I want for NAB is a GH3 that can do:

*1080/60p (in addition to 24p, 25p and 30p)
*clean 4:2:2 HDMI out in 10bit for use with an Atomos Ninja

I'd be willing to pay $1000 for that camera body alone. Global shutter would be nice, but it ain't gonna happen.

I'd like a Panasonic "AF200" that has an improved image sensor (similar to the HVX200-->HVX200A bump up), P2 card slots, and AVC-I. If it went beyond 1080P, that would just be icing on the cake. But of course it's always about the price in the end. If anyone can keep the "price right," Panasonic can.

Not really.. Look at computers.. people don't upgrade as frequently as they used to. Heck, I kept my last desktop computer for almost 6 years before upgrading. The "current" computer I have now, I have had it for 3 years...

In the computer field, that's one of issues that computer makers are having -- people aren't upgrading as fast as they use it. Its surprising how low of a spec that an average person really needs to "surf the web" which the majority of people do most of the time :-)

I say give it 5 more years, and the vdslr field will settle down.. I bet without the video capabilities in dslrs, the dslr field wouldn't be so popular. Heck I was using an 7 year old dslr (20d), before deciding that I had to get a new dslr because of video.

4k video, continuous autofocus are the major things that I want my next vdslr to do. Perhaps a swivel screen too. After that, I probably wouldn't want to upgrade anymore. In 5 years, and IMHO, we will have all of these things in a vdslr.

h ow about a properly small 3 chip video camera that actualy does decent broadcast quality footage, something like the hmc40 with 3rd inch chips and a decent codec. i know all the manufacturers make similar cams now but they are all single chip or 1/4 inch 3 chip, which to my eyes compromises the image quality a fair bit. been doing a lot of doco work recently and it's starting to get be a problem using large cams as they just attract so much attention from the public, security and the police. it'd be nice to be able to go more stealth with a powerful but consumer looking cam.

Also, seen as half the world and thier dog is shooting video on slrs now, is'nt it about time at least one of the manufacturers came out with a parfocal video style zoom lens, so you can actualy shoot without losing focus every time you you touch the zoom?

A sub $10000 super35 camera with the chip of the C300 and mechanical shutter - recording 10 bit Cineform to "of the shelf HDD/SSD", like the Samurai/Ninja does.

...yeah, I know ;-)

I'd be happy with an upgraded Sony EX1 that records to a 50Mbps+ codec. Want a self-contained camera for run and gun TV broadcast.

But you can't record 1080/60p onto the Ninja

>16mm or 2/3" sensor
>Nothing less than 1080p
>Some fps please! 720/50p is getting very tired! Maybe 300fps, or even better 500fps
>A good codec. Maybe not RAW, but something that isn't crippled from the get go
>Fixed Lens
>Less than 10k

Anyways, back in the real world...

I want people to make some decent movies.....we have the right toys.....no more excuses..

I think they're actually including that in the latest firmware updates that will be announced at the event

this should be announced before NAB, but it should be big in the show too:

5D3 (or 5DX), with:
* the same sensor of the 1DX, or very similar (not crazy high mpix; very fast readout for greatly reduced rolling shutter issues)
* clean video: no line skipping, no aliasing/moire, better resolution (maybe not as much as hacked GH2, but definitely improved from current crop)
* improved codec: XF would be great (the digic-dv-3 is dirt cheap, why not just add one only for video mode?), but the 1DX options may be a more plausible alternative
* 2 or 3 stops better ISO and DR (definitely plausible, if downsampling is well done and codec is good enough: just bring video on par with stills!)
* properly downsampled 720p60 (1080p60 would be better, but the 1DX doesn't do it, so maybe the sensor just can't work it out)
* still hackable please! (parting with ML would be harmful)
* swivel screen
* $3K

They already have that ... it's called the HPX 250.

I think the bottom line, is that people want an AF100 with a better codec. If they aren't announcing one this year, I'll just buy Scarlet this summer. After the DVX 100 and the HVX200, i think that my relationship with Panasonic may have run it's course, if they still don't release a new AF100. Too little too late.

I'd be happy to see more pro m43 zooms and primes, and by pro I mean parfocal, constant aperture and/or at the very least with video functionality in mind like their 14-140 or 7-14 (but better). It would be awesome.

I would hope they can do better than a hacked GH2, after all they've had longer to develop the sensor, and even a single Digic V+ should be more than capable. Didn't we hear (In Chuck Westfall's interview on DPR) that the 1Dx had esensially NO moire or artifacting?

Hearing about the possible I-Frame codec on the 1Dx, it that was 10 bit 4:2:2 it would be a real killer, even at 100 mbps (AVC-Intra does 100 mbps 10 bit 4:2:2). Guessing / speculating 30-35 mbps VBR H264 IPB, and 100 mbps I-Frame (Again from ods-and-ends droppped on DPR and CR).

Don't think we'll get a swivel screen, it just doesn't seem to fit the 5D mind-set (For want of a better phrase)
