Next Sony NEX VG series camcorder(perhaps VG30?) with more manual control & real buttons, priced around $2k. Interesting that Canon & Panasonic and JVC left this segment entirely to Sony.

Here's my wish: For Panasonic to have a 3D booth that actually has products you can use to shoot a good 3D movie.

IE: they need to acknowledge the necessity of adjustable interocular. Give us cams that work with a damn beamsplitter rig!

Whether you like 3D or hate 3D... you have to agree it's insane that Panasonic is spending all of this time and money pushing 3D, without selling the products needed to make good 3D?!

I hope in 2013/2014 to be shooting >HD 48fps with two synched cameras. It's insane that the companies making the best 3D cameras (RED, Arri) are the ones who haven't invested a ton in the whole 3D ecosystem of displays, etc.

I feel like Panasonic is totally letting down everyone who actually wants to help them make good 3D. Do they not want the content creators to help them sell TVs?

A Sony F3 with SLOG, ProRes Recording to SxS cards, and a global shutter all built-in.

I'd pretty much stop complaining at that point.

There is the Arri. What's your $ range?

Sony F3 capabilities.
High information codec (>99mb/s) straight to internal camera recording.
Better form factor than F3. (Aaton A Minima, this #57, C300, RED, or just smaller like a jvc HD100u, in other words, the current shape is to large to be modular, and shaped wrong to be an all in one solution)
2k 1fps-48fps.
Global Shutter.
1080 1fps-60fps
12bit
~$8,000 (plus inflation for 2013)

That would be a start.

I would actually buy something like that, but would eagerly upgrade at the next best thing. I am not so crazy about current technology.

Haha, less than that required for an Arri! :p But a camera like that at the F3's pricepoint would negate any complaints of IQ or performance that I can think of.And more importantly, it'd get me to shutup and shoot more!

I hear you. I agree, but raise you on the form factor. I just have no love for the F3 body.
hdx35f3.jpg reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaach...............!
F3.jpg how is this supposed to be used by a real human?
ATL-F3-550x410.jpg good balance, but oh crap, now all of the controls are behind my head!!!! dargh!

I would argue that the final piece would be a global shutter.

There is so much room for improvement in so many areas, but yes, for the next round of cameras over $3000, global shutter should be standard.

F3 v2 with 1080/60p in-camera and 120p through dual link or whatever it takes. DO IT!

While it would be great.... It is not an insurmountable problem for most shots considering how rolling shutter is causing fewer problems, these days.

Having 12+ DR though takes us from the video look towards film (in my opinion) for shots that can't be controlled by light .

Sure sure, but imagine for a minute a DSLRs with a global shutter...
