What Happened tot the number of posts?

Hey, if we're going to toss the post-count display, at least re-institute the graded titles. I want to be something more middle-management-ish than "senior member."

Hmm.. not sure how I feel on this one.

I mean I totally see where it's coming from. It levels the playing field. And it really shouldn't matter one bit how many posts someone has. I remeber when I only had one post.

However I think I prefered seeing the post counts. Many times in the past few days i've answered someone and wondered "should I know this person, how much do they know". I appriciate that the next Barry Green could make their first post tommorrow, and we should always post with that in mind. But a post count does still tell us a lot about how we might approach a person.

A post count is an indicator of forum experience. I know that somone with 573 posts probabaly knows most of the inside jokes. But I wouldn't refer to a flux capacitor to somone with 3 posts.

I just feel that it's a little too "sterile" without the postcount.

I think its good when forums have post counts, lets you check the place out, get a feel for the vibe on the boards before posting stuff.

Post counts are misleading. People who need to ask a lot of questions and people who spend a lot of times in the Off Topic sections have high post counts too. Not just the folks with sound information.

True, but as Mikko said, it does add to the "feel" you get for a poster. Picture, posts, join date, and reputation all are part of the ethos.

Ideally, posts from the cafe, marketplace, meetings, usw. wouldn't count. But that probably isn't user-configurable (though probably fairly easy to do, deeper in the code).

Damnit. I was just about to hit 50k posts and now it means nothing. You can only imagine the video I was going to do.

Where's B Man anyway? Did the loss of Post Counts deflate his purpose in being here?
First thing I thought of as I was reading this post!

Imagine the number of punch cards it would take to capture video?!
ROFL!!!

What a funny discussion! Love it.

I, too, was wondering what happened to the counter. I liked it but I can live without it.

while you're at it... a humble suggestion.
Do you think 100 (?) posts is a little light to be a senior member? Jason
I agree! I am a senior member but I NOT! I was stunned when my titled changed to that. I would like my title to be "member who asks a lot of questions!" :)

I think i counted about 76 posts in that picture that weren't blurred beyond recognition. LOL! counting posts is fun!
