What does this warning mean?

I was shooting with my DVX today and after I had cut tape, the screen went blue and in red letters, this came up on the screen:

AUTO OFF
S_REEL LOCK

What does this mean? I turned off the camera, then turned it back on and continued shooting. I played back a few minutes later, and the footage looked good. Later in the day, on another tape, it started happening again, and happened 4 times in about 20 minutes. It only happened right after cutting tape, never while rolling.

I was in Sacramento, so it was hot, but we were shooting inside a lot of the time, so I don't suspect it was heat related.

Any thoughts? My camera has almost 200 hrs, and I've never had it professionally serviced...should I? Any feedback and advice would be great.
Thanks!
Andrew

hey, I got the same problem with my camera and I have just five months since I bought it, and I haven't use it that often. ( i record a wedding, some test footage, and a short five minute scene) how did you fix your problem.

What kind of tapes where you using? Where all the tapes from the same box?

I started getting this from a newly opened box of panasonic PQ tapes. I have since used those and opened another box and the problem has not reappeared. Thinking/hoping I got a batch of badly spooled tapes.

i have this problem before. firstly when you feed the tape into the camera.
check if the sign appear. if it does, change a new tape.

1) run through the tape clearner
2) send to service center to check through.

usually it is the due to dirty head ...if it bite the tape..
than you better send for service

i just got the exact same warning signal but not in REC mode
but in PlayBack mode. My DVX won't rewind the tapes but it FF
no problem. I used the recommended panasonic dv tape head cleaner
but it did not solve the problem. Does anyone know what it means...

It means something jammed the supply spool. You probobly need it serviced by a Panny authorized service center. Or you could go to the head cleaning thread in the technical section.
