What Cards Are You Using?

I had my T2i for several months, but I had the opportunity to upgrade to a 7D. Obviously, I had to ditch my class 6 SD cards, and I bought a SanDisk 8GB CF 30MB/Sec. The video seems to be fine, but I cannot shoot full speed 8FPS in RAW mode... Which card would you recommend? I am liking the look of the Lexar 16GB UDMA 45MB/Sec. Any other recommendations? I would prefer to stay under $200.

When I got my gear they didn't have any SanDisk Extreme IIIs, but they recommended the Delkin UDMA Compact Flash Pro.

It's been working fine now for months, I haven't noticed any problems with it.

I'd be careful with the Kingston 32gb Elite Pros.

I have 2 of them, and both of them show the "Slow Writing Speed" five level indicator. At first, they never hit the 5 square level, which stops the movie shooting automatically, and I never noticed any dropped frames. However, yesterday I was using the Kingston and it did the 5th square on almost every shot. I switched out the card obviously. I reviewed the footage and didn't notice any dropped frames, but yeah.... it's certainly NOT a good warning to have pop up.

I have 2 different kinds of San Disks. The Extreme 3 and the Ultra (the slower card which is much cheaper). I've NO slow writing speed warning with either card, and the cheaper Ultra seems to work just fine for video with no problems. The only thing is you can only get it in 8gb, which is pretty small. If they made a 32gb version that would be great. The Extreme 3 seems to work well also and problem free, but it costs so much.

The San Disks are more reliable for sure. I think I'm over the Kingstons (much less expensive), and might just use it for silly stuff and B-Roll and use the San Disks for real work.

An addendum to my last post. I will add that it only hit the 5 square level warning when the card was reaching full capacity. So if you do get the 5 squares, it may mean that you only have few minutes of card space left. But a good card should not do that, it should work the same until the end.

On my SanDisk, it shoots fine with no warning at all until the card is full.

Basically if you're tight on money, the Kingston are much more affordable. But if you can afford it, get the SanDisks. They're more reliable.

Gene, I've had that issue (buffer full when near capacity) with multiple brands of cards, not just my Kingston. I know for sure I saw it on my Patriot 16GB as well.

i got the buffer for the first time over the weekend and it shut down recording (on the kingston 16GB 133x).

Never had the issue before, then i realized the card was like 99% full and that was why.

I dumped my footage re-formatted the card and kept going without probs.

I did have it clip out again once after card was dumped and had rode videomic plugged in, but couldnt figure out why or how it happened and couldnt repeat it.

I have shot hours and hours of footage with these cards and never this issue, wonder why its creeping up all the sudden?

I use two Patriot 16Gb Class 6 cards. I have seen the buffer warning, but it has only flashed it a few times. It did not stop the recording.

I heard of some issues with Patriot's Class 10 cards, but hear they have a new firmware that is compatible with the T2i.

Canon say class 6 or higher for video. I use a Sandisk 8GB Extreme III class 10.
Will be buying more when funds allow.

Sandisk Extreme C. 10 32GB. Perfect size for my needs, picking up another one soon. Won't go beyond that with these current gen cameras though, better to have several cards instead. Card also comes with rescue software if one happens to delete the files by mistake. Well spent 200 bucks.

There are two things I will never take a shortcut with, and that is batteries and flash memory.

lexar 16gb 300x udma. that vid is correct re the lexar. mine takes 15 seconds to clear but i can still get off a couple while it clears.
