The G60 was the only camcorder I personally purchased in the last 8 years or so after the Panasonic HPX250 (great camera for its time) because of its price and AF.

But if these companies would stop joshing around, and make a legit camcorder with 1" plus sensors with fast fixed lenses (no silly f/2.8 - f/5.6 ones) and all of the features all of the photography cameras get, that would be nice.

Yes my bad miss read the specs !!

For me the XF400 would be the choice as it has a lot going for the price. But I still wonder if you may be mixing convenience with performance. I see almost no difference in IQ between my AX53 ( 1/2.5" ) and the AX100 ( 1" ) In some instances the AX53 is better. The AX100 has 14Mpixels and the AX53 8Mpixels so actual pixel size for low light purposes is not drastically different. The AX53 has a nice wide angle on the zoom making it great for quick shots in confined places like family party etc. The AX53 is my choice over the AX100 when I go out with just one camera.

Some combination of can't or won't, probably because putting a quality constant aperture zoom lens would make the camera too big and expensive. I'm not aware of any camcorder that doesn't use a slow variable aperture lens.

I don't think anyone can figure out what the OP wants probably because he doesn't know either. Most people have things backwards they want to buy the camera then make it fit their work rather than letting the work dictate the camera.

That's old thinking...I used to think the same.

They can do it and keep it a little smaller (not crazy small like the ZV-1 with a f/1.8-2.8 lens).

Just no money in this part of the business.

The Z280 is the best we'll have for the time being with a f/1.9 lens.
 
Also, I don't expect a full-frame f/1.9 zoom lens...but get these camcorders back to how the original RX10s were; f/2.8 across the board on a 1" chip.
 
just to make clear: in a way is true i don't know exactly what i want:. I don't have a project in mind to be made with a camcorder or similar. But i know i want to start to shoot around in a report/documentary style...just going in search for images i need to develope somehting is becoming cleare in my mind
So i know that i need to be quick in working, and i know that i need to be able to have a good zoom. Also, of course good AF. I think they are the starter point!

why you don't mention ax700 which is supposed to be the best of those range?

I only buy equipment that will make me money. Cameras depreciates quickly if you don't have purpose to put them into service.

I only shoot 60P so if I would upgrade the AX700 would not be on my list as it is no better than the AX53 or AX100 I have now. My goal now would be at least UHD60P None of the Sony camcorders at 1" do UHD 60P so would not be on my list. For 1" camcorders only the XF400 is a reasonable price and to me has a full spec. Panasonic CX350 would be the next in line. To get a Sony camcorder that met my spec would need to get a PXW Z190 a 3 chip 1/3" camcorder about the same price as the Panasonic CX350. Nothing in the Sony camcorder lineup until it gets really expensive above that.

You need to decide why you want the camera. That will govern the spec. You do not need 1" to shoot holiday and family events. Convenience is more important. If you are shooting for money then I do not think any of the cameras you have looked at are adequate.

I bought the AX53 and AX100 when I was just shooting HD. Have now switched to UHD 60P with the GH5 and GH5S. I only use the camcorders to shoot HD. I also have a DJI OSMO Pocket that also shoots UHD60P and is great to just put in my pocket when out. If I had to take just one camera with me on a trip it would be the AX53.
