C100: What batteries are you using?

As the titles says do you have a suggestions for extra batteries for the C100?

Are there some on eBay or elsewhere you would recommend?

Drew.

There are places to go cheap, and I don't think batteries are one of them...especially when it comes to cameras. The one we sell the most is the Canon BP-970 ($149.00)...it will get you almost 7 hours on the C100. Also, if, god forbid, you have any problem with power related to using 3rd party batteries, your warranty will be in question.

I bought an extra BP-955 and a BP-975 and I hardly ever use the BP-975.
The BP-975 sticks out a bit from the body and weighs a little bit more, and the BP-955 lasts long enough for most shoots anyway.

The BP-955 is the best performing battery small camera battery I have ever used. With only two of these your set for a big shooting day. I usually like to have three batteries but I'm not getting a third for now unless I have to travel and charging can be an issue. Stick with the Canon ones this time.

I bought a couple of Swit S-8845 larger capacity batteries - which also have a tap to power other stuff - could be useful.

I've only managed to get through one, as they last for most of a day on constant shooting. They also have a similar charge indicator on the back.

They stick out more than the standard BP965 - but it hasn't been an issue for me.

As well as the two smaller 955 batteries that came with my two cameras, I bought a larger original Canon 975 each for them. Costly but worth the peace of mind for me. I fill bride prep and ceremony with the 955 and then change it (with still about 2 hours left of use) for the 975 which last the rest of the day (and beyond if needed). As a side point, I use two transcend 64GB SDXC per camera for backup recording. 64GB gives me enough capacity to record the whole wedding without having to change cards. It also means I only have one card per camera to off-load too.

I might give these a try. The money is good. Thanks for the tip.

i bought 2-"Wasabi batteries @$25.99 each & a Pearstone dual charger @ $86.68 for my C100.

the batteries last a long time. had very high rating by a large quantity of people on amazon. have not been disappointed.

i also use a buttload of wasabi batteries for my (canon style) LCD's & EVF's with great results. even use them in my 5DmkIII sometimes. when you can get a pair of batteries plus charger & car charger for around $30 and they work great and you need a lot of them ive found it very hard to justify buying canon brand.

Can the Swit S-8845 power the Ninja 2 while also powering the camera?

I've been using unbranded Chinese batteries for years without any problems. I'm not sure I'd be willing to risk it with the C100 though...

Used Lenmars on my old XHA1 and XF100. They performed every bit as good as the Canon brand. Debating too though whether I take the chance of an off brand for a much more $$$ camera.

Smart money always says there are places to go cheap and batteries are not one of them....a $5500 or $14,000 camera and taking a chance on saving a few bucks on the battery????...we usually sell the BP-970s ($149.00), no read-out on the outside of the battery (the camera tells you when it's plugged in) but will get you the same time as the BP-975 (6-7 hrs) for about $125 less.....

Silly question: Will the Swit battery charge on the supplied Canon charger? Or does it require a Swit battery charger?:undecided

Yes - it works exactly the same as the Canon original and the camera talks to it in just the same way.

Hi Ben, I bought the Swit and used it for the first time today. I noticed the camera does not show the time remaining beside the battery icon. Is this the same on your setup? Other than that it all works as it should.

Drew.

Hi Drew.

Sorry - am away from the camera at the mo. Will try and let you know next week. I haven't seen any difference in the way that the batteries behave - but not sure about the time element.

Cheers,

Ben.

For anyone looking for the true Canon battery, we bought a BP-955 direct from Canon for a touch over $150 shipped. Ordered Tuesday and arrived Thursday, really can't complain about that!
