What are you watching?

I've been kind of slack, lately. But...

The Great (Hulu)(finished)
Raised by Wolves (HBOMax)(finished)
Ford vs. Ferrari
Coroner (CW, but a Canadian series)(mid season break, I believe)
The Ranch (Netflix)

Those dancing robots are oddly cute. Which means we're doomed.

Btw r&g you did not give the one-word review for these shows - are they all worth watching?

I like all of them. Being a sci-fi guy, you would like Raised by Wolves(if you haven't already watched it). But The Ranch may not be for everyone. I think you need to have the right sense of humor for it. It's kind of like That 70's Show, but set in modern times and on a ranch in CO and uncensored(and replace pot smoking with drinking). Many of the actors(current and former) are from That 70's Shows. It swings from lighthearted and humorous to uncomfortable situations and tension that makes you want to walk out of the room. Sam Elliot is awesome in this show. He can be funny and likable one second and a dead serious a**-hole the next. Ashton Kutcher's character is kind of the same. He plays both the likable, dumb goof-ball and self-centered jerk who keeps F'n up on such massive levels that it makes it hard to keep pulling for him. The tension between Kutcher and Elliot's characters(father and son) feels real. And everyone knows why they had to remove Danny Masterson from the show several seasons ago, but it's not as good without him. His and Kutchers characters(brothers) were just so good together.

I've only seen a little 70s show but I think my wife has watched most of it. I could definitely see the concept updated for an older/raunchier audience. We'll check it out when we return to Netflix

I saw Kurtwood Smith recently in the famous "Year of Hell" 2-parter of ST: Voyager where he starred as a mass-murdering megalomaniac. He did a great job, but it was hard for me to take him seriously...

Actually it looks like he played 3 live action ST characters (including president of the federation) and just voiced an animated character in one episode of the 2020 season of Lower Decks

Boddicker.

Yep. A lot of people probably forgot about him being one of the main bad guys in the original Robocop. He’s good at playing an SOB. And yes, he’s in The Ranch, as well.

Another actor that can play a great bad guy, especially because it’s not his normal role, is Harrison Ford.

Is it permitted for thoroughly middle-aged people to enjoy Marvel movies in any capacity?

If so, I might wave a small flag for Guardians of the Galaxy, which contains instants of actual wit.

Sod all this Sci Fi tripe. It's all about Victorian Farm on Prime. So. Addicted.
Since I grew up on a ranch and raised 4H animals as kid, I connect with it
on an experiential and visceral level.

Casino by Martin Scorsese. A long but really interesting film. The other day rewatched the Riddick trilogy. The 2nd film is the best, imo.

Just finished season 2 of The Mandalorian. (Painfully)Slooooooooooow start, but finished STRONG. Last four episodes were great. They could have cherry picked and culled the first four into one episode. As I said in the thread in the Films Discussion Forum, they were 85%-90% filler. Chinese newspaper and sawdust.

Also finished Wonder Woman 1984 a few nights ago. Pretty much the same thing. The last 35-45 minutes were good, but the rest could have been cut down to about 30 minutes. It felt very disjointed with a premise that seemed wonky, even in the context of that universe. Which was a shame, because I loved the first one and thought it was one of the best super hero movies that has been made. But thinking about it, I really liked the first Captain America, too. And I think what made these two so good, they were their origin stories and both were set in the past.

This one was set in the past as well, and did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING with this.

Absolutely true, in the absolute sense. But you know what I mean...

I think there’s just something about some of these super hero movies/stories that works better in those “simpler” times, when there was still some mystery in the world. I mean, who’d like to see Superman re-done in the original time period?
