What are you watching?

Empire of the Sun (1987) - Jesus this movie was heart wrenching. The young innocent boy thrown into the horror of war with all its violent abuses, losing his innocence in the most brutal ways, surviving at all costs, and at the end returning to his parents with just a glimmer of hope in his eyes. I'm not gonna lie, I was in tears. Makes me think our current situation could be a lot worse.

Such an underappreciated film. More than The Color Purple, this is really Spielberg's transition from boy-fantasy filmmaker to more mature fare. And it's brilliantly photographed by Allan Daviau. The sequence of the Kamakazi pilot ceremony at dawn through the bombing of the airfield, to the majestic flyby wave and culminating with "I can't remember what my parents look like" is top notch cinema throughout.

Ozark - great writing, dialog, and acting. It is a great example of just how far you can take characters in extremis. Kinda like BB in that it just doesn’t quit.

Catching up on some W5 Docs.

Finished watching the April 11 and March 21 subjects. Those are some serious head shakers and now with the Covid crisis adding to the latter specifically...it's not over yet.

Just watched a movie... as I do from time to time. Not often do I see lighting, design, color, camerawork and the story of a production come together into such a visually enjoyable experience. Leans a little to the complimentary colors of Orange and Teal but done in quite a subtle nuanced way. A 9.5/10 from me

Runtime 3 hr 9 min (189 min)
Sound Mix Dolby Digital
Color Color
Aspect Ratio 1.85 : 1
Camera Arri Alexa XT Plus, Zeiss Master Prime Lenses
Laboratory ARRI Media, Germany
Cinematographic Process Codex
Printed Film Format DCP

Just saw this. Exquisite! (and titled Never Look Away)

Edit:Last night, finally finished final Season 4 of Better Call Saul.

Something happened between Season 3 & 4- I got lost in the woods, my ride didn't come, my check got lost in the mail- I'm not sure... but then I realized I hadn't finished it, and started that process we all know of beginning to finish something that you don't want to end...

Oh, and to follow Chris' format format:

Episodes 10
Netflix

What happened to this thread? Surely, people are watching interesting stuff daily and just not sharing with the class. What is everybody watching and do they recommend it?

All I can contribute right now is season 3 of Star Trek: Discovery, which was going very well until taking an odd turn in episode 9 (if you like a space adventure and don't mind a bit of camp). I have high hopes that the season will get back on track and finish as well as it started.

Very nice opening sequence from episode 10 - generally the show has great effects:

The Shane MacGowan Story 2001 only because I can't find where to buy his newest one yet.

Generally speaking war movies are always good.
Danger Close -Battle of Long Tan 2019 1080p
Kajaki 2014
Hacksaw Ridge 2016.
LION had some interesting/humourous bits in it.;)
Black Hawk Down 2001 was always a good one.

Right now? Tunes. But yeah thank-you for reviving this thread. It needs to be here. :)

//Actually, right now, thanks to you guys and the beers-> The Great Hunger:The Life & Songs Of Shane MacGowan (Complete Version) on youtube. You instigators lol.

Wow how have i not heard of Shane MacGowan. He reminds me a lot of Bob Dylan in a way. I'll have to play him for the mrs tomorrow, I think she'll like it. Is this the version you're watching:

That link doesn't work in my country and this one may not work in yours but as long as the title is right it should be good to go.(The 2001 one I don't have a link handy. I just watched this one too. All good.)
The Great Hunger:The Life & Songs Of Shane MacGowan (Complete Version)

Indulging an itch for B grade thrillers. One stood out for its unusual style and story. Dave Bautista plays the anti-hero.

I would watch that simply because of the director's name: Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck
This name sounds like the heiresses name in a game of Clue. I love it.

I've been kind of slack, lately. But...

The Great (Hulu)(finished)
Raised by Wolves (HBOMax)(finished)
Ford vs. Ferrari
Coroner (CW, but a Canadian series)(mid season break, I believe)
The Ranch (Netflix)

And no one is watching the Soviet/post-Soviet/post-post-Soviet New Year staple, the "Irony of Fate"?

Boston Dynamics robots dancing: Gotta love it.
Do You Love Me? -Boston Dynamics.

Saw that on the news the other night. Insane... Skynet and the Terminator are getting closer everyday. *Insert script from so many dystopian futuristic movies* A mega-corporation will rule and control us all. And I see it happening in the US first. Googlezon. Or Amagle. Or Amazogle.
