I am considering putting up a site that will allow indie filmmakers a place to promote and sell their DVDs free of charge. This will give RocketIndie users an extra place to put their purchase links and allow anyone else with a DVD a marketplace to attract viewers. It will not be a warehouse or shipping setup just a portal to help promote sales of indie projects.

I'm also looking into a place for shorts and other nonprofit projects to be streamed along with trailers and IMDB style film information.

Is this something enough of you will be interested in?

If it's for true indies, and has no favoritism, it's a great idea.

The big key is that you're going to have a very streamlined and easy to navigate site, with an awesome search function.

Is there anything out there like this already? I know of none that specifically do this. CreateSpace/CustomFlix have their sales sites on there with lots of indies, but what else is there?

imdb.com is there, and so is youtube.com.

With IMdb you can't watch or buy movies and with youtube it is strickly streaming. IndieFlix is a great site but they sell lower quality DVDs with poor packaging and only 70% of profit and it doesn't help people who have a stack of retail ready DVD's sitting in the warehouse at RocketIndie or in their spare bedroom ready to mail out.

I would like to include an indie database like IMDB including info like what cameras were used etc. Also streaming video like youtube for people looking to display their work but not selling any DVDs, open for filmmakers and animators. I would like to keep the main focus on helping people who are self distributing sell their DVDs in an indie marketplace that will stream their trailers and also link their database information.

This site is for everyone so feedback and suggestions are the key to making something like this work. I am hoping that a site like this will really help out RocketIndie because I think they have a great system which I plan on using when I finish my feature.

Yes, each site does just one thing and does it well.
BUT as a filmmaker, I can just use both. No need to choose. ;)

I want the focus to be on a marketplace for filmmakers trying to sell their dvds, the streaming feature would just be one of the included features on the site

I'm for this..

But what kind of success rate do you think this would have for short films?

my guess is not much.. people just don't buy shorts... but..I'd love to be proven wrong.

Well if they are trying to sell their shorts more power to them but if they are just interested in displaying their work thats where the streaming section would come to play.

I'd think the only (or best) way a section for short films would work is if presented together as a compilation. For example: "Now for sale, the DVX User Slasherfest, 18 great shorts only available on DVD and BluRay here!" Or those from other festivals and contests and award winners, or grouped into genres "The Best 10 short sports films out there" sort of thing.

Again though, I think the biggest key is to take the time and spend the time to make an easy to navigate website, with a great, easy to use search feature.

I agree Short compilations are probably the only way of going about it. Lots of bonus material on each film is a good addition as well.
