Watching raw DVX100b footage on widescreen tv

I bought a brand new red white and yellow AV lead the other day to plug my DVX100b camera into my tv to watch raw footage.

Was really cool to see it on a big screen compared to my PC.

But I would like to ask a question-I shoot in Squeeze mode, and the picture quality when played on my tv is no where near as nice as what it looks like on my pc monitor. (Keeping in mind tho that the picture is way smaller on my pc.)

When I finally get round to (and knowing how to) putting some edited footage on a DVD (i.e it will have been colour graded, uprezzed to HD hopefully) will it look alot better on a tv?

Cheers.

i dont think its such a good idea to uprezz it to hd...i thought that would be kool to do also...but after researcha nd advice it doesnt make sense. u'd be uprezzing it only to be downrezzed on dvd which is sd. how big is ur tv? i think its only locigal for the pictute to be lesser quality as compare to your small pc screen.

I have an old 42 inch CRT widescreen tv. It deosnt look too bad but wasnt sure whether it was supposed to look like that once its on Dvd.........then again it will look better with colour correction etc wont it?

dvd encoding settings can mess with the quality if u dont get that step right. use a good encoder and make sure the the settings are correct.

Any sort of colour grading will degrade the quality of any footage. it just depends on if its acceptable or not and what "looks good" to you.

but a big ass 42 incher compared to a pc monitor...no competition there. the monitor will look sharper.

do you mean the picture quality will look worse from colour grading when viewed on a DVD on a tv or PC monitor?

be that as it may (Irag in fragments)...it underwent extensive post processing, the likes of which the average person wont be able to use.

It has 3 options to watch in, 480p, 720p or 1080p...........I clicked on 1080. CAn you see that box?

My dvx footage looks great on a 1080p 50inch lcd. Maybe you are not encoding right or exporting the files correctly.

Think I'm not understanding. The DVX100 shoots in 480p if I'm understanding correctly. An old CRT can not show the deail of 480p. It would be must like looking at your desktop from your PC on your TV. While your monitor can show full detail of 480p.

Ah ok. So I would have to get a HD tv to see the full picture quality of the DVX (when played on a tv) ??
