Watching raw DVX100b footage on widescreen tv

A DVX's progressive mode is still captured in an interlaced format, so even 24p/pA should still come out of the camera from the composite output as 480i and be fully compatible with an SD TV. (I'm pretty sure you can't send 480p over composite, for that matter.) I think the weak link in your display chain here is that TV. Not because it's not HD, but because it's (in your own words) "old." :)

Well its not that old, but its a crt widescreen which is basically redundant nowadays. Then again I have no idea how many people in the world have HD tvs instead of the CRT's.

I remember I was one of the first people I knew to own a DVD player when they came out, this was before they became really mainstream, and as soon as they became mainstream all my mates and neighbours ended up getting one.

They would never of got one had they not been popular, but saying that, DVD players were a leap in technology so yeh.
