T2i Warranty Service or Quick Fix?

Hello All,

I've been absorbing information on this board (in the hmc150 area) for a long while now. I managed to find a T2i in stock yesterday and excitedly bought a kit and the 50mm 1.8 and rushed home. I was getting everything set up the way I like it when the screen went blank. Now I don't mean the lcd shut off. I can see all of the menus and the grid, but there is no actual picture.

The camera behaves as if the lens cap is on.

I have tried the two different lenses and resetting the battery and returning the camera to default settings. I even reformatted the memory card.

Is this a known issue I'm just not finding in my searches or should I send it back to Canon? TIA.

Can you hear the mirror flip. Is it just doing an auto-shutoff???
Try going into the manual picture setting and change the auto shutoff to 2 or 4 min. Switch back to video mode.
When it shuts the screen down if you push the shutter button does the screen power back on in video mode???

I don't know what you camera is actually doing, hopefully you didn't get a dud.
If it's doing anything I mentioned above it's fixable.

The mirror does flip. In any of the still modes and the video mode I can see the lcd is on. Not in powersave mode. It just acts as if im in a completely dark room or the lens cap is on. But the mirror does flip when entering powersave and again when it's back on.

Have you checked outdoors in bright sunlight? Check your exposure settings? I know that if you set the exposure too low it will practically show a black frame.

Tried all of that as well (resetting to factory settings should reset exposure). I just took it back to the store which tried to give me the floor model at full price to replace it. After having it out with the manager because of their really poor service, I just got my money back.

They literally told me that they would sell the floor model camera at full price to someone else so there was no reason to go down on the price and seemed to want credit for not putting the used one in the box and selling it as new because "I wouldn't know" if they did. This is after I traveled to their store being told they had one in stock to replace the broken one with on Sunday.

Avoid RCS in New York at all costs!

That sucks!!!! At least you got your money back. I am total immediate gratification though....I would have gone crazy.

Oh believe me I REALLY wanted to take that floor model. Or at least send the camera in to Canon to be fixed/replaced. Took all my strength to tell them to go ef themselves, but after the way I was treated I would have felt even worse giving those dudes $900. Not their fault the camera was bad, but everything that happened after that was...

Now I have all these accessories for it (AC adapter, spare battery, 1.8 lens) and no camera.

Oh well I pre-ordered somewhere else and hopefully my refund will go through tomorrow and my camera will come in soon after.

Thanks to everyone who responded!

Yup it did happen with both lenses. I tried closing her down and opening all the way up to f/1.8 but just got no picture. My first HV20 I got years ago was DOA too...

Guess I just have bad luck with Canon the first time around.
