What does the US manufacturors warranty that comes with the purchase of a new DVX cover and for how long? I am considering buying a dvx100b from buydig.com tomorrow and want to know if the included warranty is enough or if I should get a Mack 4 year extended warranty for $250. I'm probably going to use the dvx on a bunch of projects now and over the summer and then sell it. What do you guys think?
 
It seems like quite a few people go for the Mack warranty in the U.S. I got it for a Sigma lens I bought a few years ago but never had to use it.
This warranty is not available to us in Canada so I can't comment on its terms and conditions for the DVX.
Our store does not sell or recommend extended warranties (except for AppleCare - especially for laptops) mostly because in our experience it's too easy for the guarantor to claim "normal wear and tear" etc. once they already have your money.
I'm not saying this is the case with Mack, just suggesting you check the terms carefully.

Can the extended mack warranty be purchased after you buy your camera or does it have to be the same day? I'm going to be buying my DVX from EVS tomorrow but I'd like to spend that $200+ on some filters and buy the warranty later (after my rebate check comes back).
 
Your credit card company may offer an extra year on the manufacturer's warranty...ours did when we bought the 100a from Rush at EVS. The 4 year Mack Pro warranty was only about $165 extra and i bought it "just in case".
Also, it's probably a bit easier to re-sell your camera if there is still some kind of warranty on it. The Mack warranty can be transferred for $15.

Can you tell me if the mack warranty has to be purchased on the same day I purchase the camera or is there a grace period? (I can go back 15 days later and purchase the warranty.)
 
Thanks guys. I just recieved my dvx100b today with 4 year mack warranty. Got it from buydig, saved myself about $540 with the cheaper list price and no tax and free shipping. Everything turned out great. Bought myself a porta brace case and got the bogen 503 head to go along with it.
