Ok, I know I probably shouldnt do this, but I want to save others from what I experienced:

This is my story about the fabled bulletproof canon products and service

1DC and probably 1DXMk2 as well:
The camera a has a serious bug when shooting video that hasn´t been fixed in 3 years, there was a thread about it here before.
As it doesnt do a black balance, after 5-6 months of use you get hotpixels on the sensor when shooting 4k over 1000ISO.
This is KNOWN by Canon, still they do nothing to fix it. I went through 2 Bodys because in 2013 they didnt know how to fix
back then and after Months of sending email, going there personally, showing 3 months of footage incl 3 Hotpixels, ONLY speaking to a senior sales person helped. Now they do fix it (sensor calibration) BUT charge you around 200,-€ every time it happens. I am pretty shure the same will be happening with the 1DX as they dont treat it as a video camera
Not to speak about the Update policy Canon showed with the 1DC.

L Lenses and CPS
My last two lens repairs with CPS went the following way. I sent a lens there to check and clean. They found some defect I didnt even notice before. As I always want my equipment to be in Top condition, I let them do it. The lens comes back with Dust in the lens. After reclamation they say it has nothing to do with the repair (basically telling me I am lying) and charge me 100€ AGAIN to clear the Dust. So I had to pay again. (Keep in mind I still have a platinum status because of the money I spend there in the last few years)

C Cinema Cameras service
While Check and clean is free of charge 3 Times a year for photo equipment. They charge you from day one on the MORE EXPENSIVE Cinema line. I cant understand why, but it is the way they do it.
Maybe because they think video productions have more money to milk?

I know this can happen with other companies, But they dont charge a premium for their so called premium products and services.
I am out of Canon, selling my last lenses and XC10 even though I like the images they produce. As a working professional I want premium service if they charge me premium service.
I was lucky the next CPS center was 50km away, cant image how upset I would be if it was 500km+

It's important to know what's in store when you DO have a problem. That is the impact side of risk analysis. So what if the probability is low when the impact implies a need to mitigate the risk.

I had once had a 24-70L 2,8 repaired under waranty without any problems.
My c100 had the daf upgrade aplied by cps willich in germany at the cost of 400 €
My 7d had hot pixels wich could be resolved by starting the cleaning function inside the camera menu with the bodycap on. (maybe this is available in 1dc too ?)

I don't understand why this posters post was downgraded by a few of us?? wich resulted by his post to get minnimized

EXACTLY. This is a current trend I've noticed. People having different opinion/experience with something will down vote your post. And it clearly says "Did you find this post helpful?" which I definitely have. Negative reviews doesn't mean it's not helpful.

Nope doesnt work...

The Downgrading is securing investment maybe? You dont want this kind of info around if you still want to sell your 1DC body.

I like Canon....but I can't say I have NOT had issues. My C100 does do some funny things every once in a while. Clips duplicate randomly in Premiere import....audio glitches out randomly and repeats like 1 second of audio over and over...sometimes on multiple clips....now and again there is digital distortion for a few frames on the beginning of a clip.

So its not perfect....but....what camera is? My RED camera was not prefect either...and way more expensive....but I loved the look.

So...all in all...I think Canon is good...but for me...I don't want to tell myself that they are without flaws.

Do I plan to continue using the Canon ecosystem...yes...definitely....but only their C line of cameras. Too bad the 1DXII is not video centric

That downgrading was unwarranted. I'm not sure the original post was warranted either as there is little reason to expect that the 1DX II will have the black balance problem that was definitely shown to be an issue with the 1DC. Someone should test the 1DX II for the ability to black balance the sensor for 4K, though. It's not a deal breaker for most work, but it is an issue that shouldn't have existed in the 1DC based on Canon's experience in the industry and the price of the camera.

It's OK to vent some frustration I guess.

Problem is, if we're going to do these posts we need everyone who hasn't had similar problems to speak up as well, to put everything in perspective.

Anyway… good luck with your next brand! <--- not irony, I hope it works better for you.

Clips duplicate randomly in Premiere import....
I believe that is an AVCHD issue, not C100 specific. I recall having that with the Panasonic HMC40 which records AVCHD. If you don't copy the folder structure and copy just the clips, then you won't get duplicates, but you also will lose a few frames between file breaks when recording clips longer than around 18 minutes.

There is no such thing as the perfect camera. If there were, there would be no reason to make new cameras. Seriously though, I've owned just about every Canon Dslr released. Even a Rebel. From the 1Ds to the 5DsR and back. I've had one issue with a firewire port on the old 1Ds. Dropped it off at Canon and it was back making money the next morning.

As for dead pixels. Most times it's a real fine positive electro charged piece of dust on the sensor. Do a manual wet clean and then an extended camera sensor clean and 9/10 times it's solved. If not, try it again. If still persisting, send it to Canon. Expecting fixes by e-mail to a large corporation like Canon is silly.

The way the original post by the OP is worded one can clearly see that there is no positive intention. He/she is clearly venting his frustration. In the past that frustration has been vented in another thread and how can one justify starting another thread?

I use canon cameras and lenses in some very harsh environments. And I have often dropped lenses, converters and cameras. The shell of my 2xII TC had to be changed and they ordered a part from Canon Japan. I immediately bought a 2xIII TC. Never complained as to why Canon didn't have a spare part because loosening that shell down is a very rare record and I am sure no one else would have done it. For the record, the 2xII TC along with the 70-200 f2.8 IS II lens went flying from the hands of my assistant and bounced off a few rocks. The lens was fine and there was a dent in the 2xII TC. After that I used the TC for two years and then after another such drop it needed a change of shell. :) So I never had started a thread to blast canon.

My 24-70 f2.8 lens had a problem with the aperture. Got it repaired. Does that mean I will blast a company? Do I blast God when I fall ill?

Whenever there is a discussion about problems with equipment, I only mention the ones which I feel others can face. So I tell that my C300 Mark I cable no. 1 was changed three times. That doesn't mean I will start multiple threads and blame Canon. No equipment/camera is full proof or ideal. There would be positives and negatives. We have to make our choice based on the total benefits that we get. At the end of the day it is a business.

This forum is meant to share and learn from each others experiences. We are all open to hear negative experiences. However, if the person has got an axe to grind, then I am not interested. That is the reason why the Original post has got negative votes.

My dog ate my 50 1.8 and Canon didn't warranty it. They did however replace my 20 year old 70-200 2.8 with the new IS II model for the originally quoted repair cost (a couple hundred bucks IIRC).

You can argue about his 2. and 3. point but you cannot take away his experience with 2 1DC camera bodies. There is a high chance that 1dx ii sharing same (updated) body can have same issues. Good hibt for every potential buyer to check if it's still present there. Don't kill/dislike messenger.

I can understand the frustration as it relates to the 1DC. The OP's experience, as well as my own, seemed to show that Canon's service center knowledge of the camera was close to zero. Many people who bought the camera were hoping that Canon would treat it like their flagship model, but it was basically abandoned and received less attention than the 1DX as exemplified by the black balance issue and the lack of significant firmware updates. Even so, the OP's warning is a little overboard. It is useful for potential owners to understand Canon's company culture before buying a product. From my experience Canon is a relatively conservative company that tries to maintain a segmented product line that addresses specific users needs while focusing on products that have the highest chance of being profitable. Know what you are buying into. Canon is still trying to figure out their cinema division and have made some mistakes. I don't see signs that any other company makes any less mistakes.

I think the complaints are warranted.
The OP doesn't seem to be taking the position that there should never be cause for repairs - he's listing repairs that he feels were done poorly at his expense.
And he's listing a confirmed issue along with that - providing a bigger picture of the conditions of a product.
That is EXACTLY the kind of thing I would want to know about before signing on to any camera eco-system.

Now I happen to know from experience that Canon has generally very good service - but it's ALWAYS possible that he did not get that great service, or that a fallible Human did poor work on his property that day.

I personally don't find it to be statistically relevant to state "no problems here" because we certainly know that NO products are defect free. And 95% of people having no problems with something is not a predictor of how someone else's real problems play out.
I want to know how it went when the problems happened - because problems are ALWAYS going to happen.

As stated above "This is my story"

I had good exp. with them too and I thought: OK the the 1DC is a speciality camera (which they are still selling regardless of the defunct and their non existant firmware updates). And I hold on for years because I loved the image output from their cameras. But how they handled the 2 Lenses just made me rethink.

I dont have the money, time and nerves to battle them legally and as you can read in the other thread on DVX(which is not mine) it doesnt make sense.
I just shared my exp. and that it makes me (regretfully because I like the image) sell all my canon gear.

If a client wants canon in the future ill rent it, but ill never buy again. Maybe the 1DX MK2 will show the same problem maybe not. ( IMHO - if its wildly successful they will support it and fix things in firmware, if its not successful they will not care) I personally lost the trust in canon as a company - And I wanted to share what exp you can have with them thats all.
