I think it's a really unfair assumption that whoever shoots also edits. And even if that was always so, they're still two very different skills, and lumping them together doesn't do either skill justice. If they're the same person, and the editing is terrible, but the lighting and shot composition is great, how does the person interpret the score they've received? If they're different people, how do they know who did well, and who blew it?

Again, this is a very odd choice, lumping the interaction of shots (editing) with the individual composition of shots (cinematography), while ALSO separating lighting from composition. It simply makes the score heavily weighted toward pretty shots, and not how they work together to make a movie. Two categories for pretty shots.

Well, I would love to sit in front of my computer all day and wait for this, but I got no underwear left, so I gotta go do some laundry.

wakey wakey eggs and bakey

hmpf...not here yet. Wait. Maybe I should go check my chimney, just in case. Feels like waiting on Christmas. :p

Try not to obsess over the categories. I wanted to match them to the technical awards with prizes that we already announced to help guide our selections. We can fine tune for the next DVXFest. The scores aren't meant to replace the written feedback, but to give filmmakers some idea of how they faired in broad areas. I'm sure the actors won't be happy being all lumped together in one category, but we're not trying to be the Academy Awards™. :)
