I love it. The West Coast going live at the same time as the east coast (no tape delay).

yeah, unforunately.

don't go and start thinking you're as good as us easterners. I think I'll watch One Tree Hill tonight, just to revel in my superiority. I don't even like the show, but at least I'll see if before you.

viva la television.

Hahahaha. I love it that I could watch Monday Night Football and it'd be over at 9:00 pm.

If you want to reward a film with outstanding SFX, you can also up the Cinematography score a bit. Cinematography - How well does the filmmaker use the language of film? Camera movement, mise en scène. You can include editing in this category as well. Lighting - Pretty self-explanatory.

I like the categorical voting but think that there is a problem with the Cinematography category; that is it includes things that don't belong (special effects and editing) but doesn’t include lighting? Huh? Shouldn't Lighting be part of the Cinematography category and editing be its own separate category? I didn't make a film but if I was a cinematographer or editor on one I would hope to see the score as related to what I did. Just a thought.

Interesting... the only thing is that I see Cinematography as framing choices, and shot selection, as opposed to lighting which is.... lighting... I also think that if the editor doesn't show off the framing and shot selection of the cinematography, then you won't think it's good cinematography... wait... is that making any sense at all??

Kinda payback for you guys seeing "live" events 3 hours before we get to watch it on tape delay.

Having lighting separate from cinematography is indeed a very odd choice. Lighting is a big part of cinematography, direction of photography, the quality of the image. Whereas, editing is certainly a category of its own. Rhythm, pacing, timing, seamlessness.

However, as long as everyone has the same understanding of the categories, it doesn't really matter how the lines are drawn, as long as everyone grades with the same understanding.

Not really, cinematography is the art of painting with light. Lighting is the single most important part of cinematography.

Isn't that a DP? Sorry, I'm not too up on the terms...

Yes lighting is definitely the most important part of cinematography.

Cinematographer and DP are generally the same thing, and are largely interchangable, unless you're on a huge shoot.
