Vignetting problems in some XA20

If you are an XA20 owner, you could have a problem!

There is a vignnetting effect in my XA20 Canon camcorder and there are more people with the same problem (at least 4)!

When using the stabilitation in 20x optical zoom (no tripod), apears some intermitent vignetting effect in the top corners of the image. This problem appears only with the stabilitation is connected in Dinamic, Powered or Standard mode with the
camera in Auto Mode and Manual Mode.

You can watch the effect in this video recorded with my camcorder: https://vimeo.com/76793649

Now my camcorder is in the hands of the Canon Support Service and I hope it will be back without the bug.

Please, if you are an XA20 owner check if you have the same problem and tell me your conclusions.

Thanks.

My camcorder has not been repaired!

Answer from Canon is: 'We have verified the vignetting effect, but this is normal because it is a limitation of the product.

Unbelievable but true!!

Canon hate their customers!

No one has responded, but we appreciate the heads up. I am one of the many thinking about the Canon xa20 vs the Sony NX30. This is very helpful.

It is very easy to reproduce this bug!

Set Dynamic stabilization, frame to the skyline of the buildings, start recording, and zoom in from 1x to 20x, zoom out from 20x to 1x, zoom in from 1x to 20x ....

Every time you are near the 20x the corners will be darker.

Just so I understand - this problem ONLY occurs when you are zoomed fully in and you are using one of the stabilization modes. If you don't use stabilization, then no problem, correct?

Yes, it is a limitation when you are using stabilization (standard, dynamic or powered)

When you are recording without stabilitation (OFF) then you do not have this problem.

¡Good news for the vignetting problem!

Two gays has discovered that the problem appears only when the ND filter setting is AUTO. If this setting is OFF there are not any vignetting problem.

I will verify if and I inform you the about the results.

If this is true, Canon should give us a new firmeware because is very easy to correct the behaviour of the automatic ND filter.

I have just verified that the vigneting problem occurs when FilterND option is set to AUTO.

Here you have an evidence video: https://vimeo.com/80147498

I would describe the vignetting problem as a white border circle artifact.

CANON MUST FIX THIS PROBLEM!

XA20s ARE WORKING BAD!

IT IS NOT A LIMITATION, IT IS A BAD BEHAVIOUR!
