C100: Video I shot for the Amercian College of Cardiology

Looks good Matt. Curious as to why you chose 709-log. Was this purely for the quick turn-a-round or were you handing this off to someone else and didn't want them to mess around with the grade?

Yup, super fast turnaround, as in two days to edit.

Director, who is also the editor, asked for a good baked-in look that didn't require much finessing.

709-log is my go-to for those types of requests.

Great looking piece!
May I ask a simple questions?

What approach did you take to white balancing the camera for the different locations/lighting?

I did an auto balance to a white card after the lighting was set.

Then i may have shifted the color temperature either cooler or warmer depending on the scene.

Im with Alexander, the small movements added interest. I see so many videos that look like someone just bought a slider.

It's all beautifully delivered to the client's requirement.

The Washington shot could, IMHO, have faired better with a bit of C-Log - whilst the average viewer will have no problem, I could see a LOT of bounce being used.

C-Log, with a little bit of bounce (less of the gold reflector, more of the flat white) could have pushed a more natural look rather than 'News At Eleven'.

Sorry, I'm sounding negative. It's all good. Just pushing out the kind of mental memes that I'd have when looking at the rushes. 'Nobody will notice except us chickens'

But then again, Rec709 is a horrible 20 year old standard that haunts our post produciton like Banquo's Ghost! LOL

I'm agree with him.

The Rec709, you will cut some stops from DR...if you had shot with C-Log you'll have more information the White House about light because i see burned.

But i like the movement of camera ;)

Nice looking stuff, Matt- love the subtle moves, too.

What made you choose 709 over WDR for quick turnaround?

Were the talking heads primes and the b roll the Canon? Lots of hoops to jump through to shoot the Capitol on sticks & slider?

thanks

I personally prefer the skin tones on the 709-log.

Yup talking heads were the Rokinons and the broll was the zoom.

Only hoops we had to shoot at the Capitol were to hire a location manager who secured all of the permits and parking.
