GH2 video heads & tripods & monopods for the GH2

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the GH2 and new to DV in general. Coming from a Nikon DSLR.

I've got a nice photo ball head (Arca-swiss), but it clearly doesn't pan well for video.

The GH2 is so small/light that I'm a bit unsure as to what video heads and tripods I should be looking at. Maybe the biggest lens I'd use is my Nikkor AF-D 80-200/2.8 which comes with a tripod mount (and I have an Arca-Swiss adapter on it.)

As a beginner I have a similar question...

Iam not sure about your demands for a fluidhead, heard that Velbon produces quiete good heads for a low price so far I read in tests or in threads from other people i.e. ph-368 (or just the complete tripod dv-7000)

Currently I have an older fluidhead but sometimes i get stutters, so Iam thinking about to buy the ph-368. Since the price is so low I thought give it a try......

Maybe some here around have expirience with this fluidhead ?

edit: after all I did order the ph-368 and will see how it works

I bought a Manfrotto 504HD first. Didn't buy a tripod with it because Really Right Stuff sells a 75mm bowl adapter for the TVC-33 which I already owned for my stills setup. The sticks were more than sufficient, but sadly the 504HD's movement is not very good. Not nearly enough drag.

Replaced it with a Cartoni Focus HD, which is fabulous. 10x the quality of the 504HD for only about 2x the price. "Unfortunately" since it's a 100mm bowl I had to buy a new tripod, a Miller Solo 1505 which turned out to also be fabulous. I couldn't be happier with this combo.

If you want cheap, you'd be better off going with the Fancier WF-717 (also know as the Weifeng WF-717 amongst other names):

You can find plenty of info online about this tripod, it's very well known in the community. Loads of good reviews saying it gives incredible value for money. Some not so good reviews saying you should spend a lot more on a good tripod... but that's easy for them to say. Only real negative I can find is that people say it's stiff on the pan out of the box, however there are some good guides online to show how to fix this. I plan on ordering one next week to use with my b-cam, partnering my main Manfrotto 501 setup.
