They're all very terrible for a professional environment or any environment that demands results. The GH-1 is still the best in a category of "the worse", which probably doesn't mean much. The only reason I have so many 7Ds is because the 7D had two advantages in a working world: Live Video Feed and No need to do a pulldown on footage.

Otherwise, the GH-1's the most versatile and overall better looking DSLR video image, to me.

Still love the camera. If I didn't have to live off of this stuff then I would probably still have them to play with. 7Ds and RED (and all other tech) are great propellers to have 'round here.

Gotcha (except for the propeller bit - huh?)! I am going in with my eyes wide open, and I have already spent waaay too long sussing out the faults of these cameras. That being said, some of the stuff I have seen is pretty eye popping - all things considered.

For me the live video feed isn't much of an issue, as most likely anything I do that has a big enough budget to have a video village wouldn't be using these cameras anyway. Or if we did need them for something on a bigger budget show, we could always run playback out after a take, right? Obviously that means no 1st AC during the take though.

Isn't the pulldown issue a non issue, since you have to convert the 7D stuff to prores anyway? The workflow choice comes down to neoscene vs prores, right? Is the prores route just that much faster?

For me, the most important thing I'm looking for in one of these little guys is IQ in a tightly controlled scenario, and everything I have seen makes me think the GH1 has it over the 7D in that department - less aliasing, less moire, sharper image. However, I hear a lot of guys saying the opposite, which had me thrown for a loop.

Thanks for clarifying, and for taking the time to respond! Much respect to you, been following you on here for quite awhile (though I only just joined myself), and your words carry weight. Drinks on me at NAB sometime...

Being on the bleeding edge and playing with the right people has gotten me pretty far. Somewhere in there I've learned how to shoot a little, as well. LoL. So, that's what I mean by propellers.

Well, Video Village isn't the only thing you would want live video feed for. What about simply using a larger monitor on your rig? Also, VV doesn't have to be a number of monitors, but could be just one standard def monitor right?

So, at some point you may want it. Then again, maybe never!

It's honestly not so much that it's faster, you're right that both require an extra step. However, the pulldown in GH-1 footage is causing issues. It's just old and I don't really like having to explain that process to people who I'm delivering footage to, in the event that either of my companies are not handling the post process.

It is definitely easier to deliver Quicktimes at the end of the day.

Check the Monster Fest Entry: Dispatch -- Shot by Matty_G on the GH-1 w/Anamorphics. It's one of THE most amazing no-budget DSLR videos I've seen, and reminded me that I love the GH-1 so much more than the 7D.

It just looks much better to me.

No problem at all. Just make sure it's Lemonade!!! I loves lemonade!

The 7d is a better camera for photographers.
It shoots more frames per second (stills)
It is made from better materials.
It has a dual processor (this usually results in less sheering of video image/ less rolling shutter)
It comes with a pc jack for studio lighting

The above would be the reason many would pay more for it.

On the video side, it is likely that the image may be comparable (minus the sheering)
The samples online may look softer due to the kit lens, and intended audience likely not having "L" glass.

Less heat? Possible, and likely

Look at the ISO bracketing, it jumps from
200 to 400 to 800 to 1600 that really sucks
and the best reason I've seen so far not to trade
(but I'm still tempted)

anyone know if this has the AGC curse?

Just picked up a 7D last week and have to admit the T2i took a little wind out of the sails. I'm into photography as well and 8fps is a nice feature to have, so I will most likely keep the 7D.

That being said, a T2i + L glass > 7D + kit glass (roughly the same price).
I think a lot of 7D owners will end up getting a T2i so they can do multicam shoots.

The big difference between the 1D and the 7D is low-light. Is there any reason to think the Rebel will be as good with low-light as the 7D?

Canon specifically says it's a "newly designed sensor." That could mean many things, including better performance, or lower cost/lower performance. We won't know until someone puts it through the paces.

Awesome joke. Haha.

I can't wait for the DSLR that can shoot a continuous 24FPS RAW without having to have a fullblown computer to back it up! 2020 is gonna be an insane time for filmmaking.

I'm so glad that Kholi knows a joke when he reads it. 2020? :) That might be a bit soon. :) (lol)

I didn't say they couldn't... it just won't be at the price of an MKii. It takes a lot of processing power for RED and hardware to do what it does, Epic and Scarlet follows suit.

I mean, just look at the 7D as it is now: overheating while putting out a subpar 1080 image???? What's it going to do with 4K? Vanish into thin-air?

It's gonna be a WHILE before DSLRs can complete with RED camera company ON THE BIG SCREEN. (Please don't even comment ~anyone~ about how online DSLR yadda yadda yadda, we already know.) And at the cost of a 5D Mark II...maybe never. I told a funny...it was supposed to be funny. I'm glad Kholi knew that it was. :)

RE: my earlier post

i went and looked up the ISO bracketing specs for the T1i and they are the same

absence of one third ISO bracketing looks like it is for real. I guess you get what you pay for

For $800 this looks like a really nice camera. My first DSLR was the D70. The leap from that to today's DSLRs are amazing.
Will I buy a new T2I? No.

more on the specs, the t2i comes with a power cable!

I paid $120 for mine on the 7D

$800 vs $1700+120 to shoot tethered but without 1/3rd ISO bracket control

any news on AGC? (I've done searches and found nothing)

edit: I'm wrong about the power cord, was tired and looked at the cable that goes to
the charger. Power to this camera is ack e5 and costs an extra $70
