Well said. Also; this camera uses SDHC/SDXC? Maybe we'll be able to record 12min+? That's another thing to think about/hope for.

I don't think that it's clear necessarily. If I remember correctly it's the same verbage as the 7D. i could be wrong though.

Look what I found guys! 30min or 4GB. Which ever comes first....

Movies are recorded in .mov (Quicktime) format using H.264 codec for video and PCM for audio. The maximum duration is 29m 59sec, maximum file size is 4GB. You get the option of auto or manual exposure and can set various other parameters including (in a big step up from the EOS 500D) sizes and frame rates. A new 'crop' mode shoots VGA footage using the middle of the sensor (as opposed to downsampling the entire frame), giving the equivalent of a digital teleconverter.

If you wait long enough something newer and cheaper will always come out. Canon likes making money.

Do I wish I held off the 7D? Hell no. My 7D paid for itself within 2 weeks. That was 5 months ago.

Will I get one? Possibly. Depends if we get our funding and if we can get a Scarlet before August. If not, It'll make for an excellent B Cam. I love my 7D's body. It's solid and sealed. Rebel bodies are still plastic based.

the 29 minutes would be standard def though, HD would be like the 12 minute clips like the 7d

True. Now more than ever. It is a question of work/projects, cost/resale, timing, and other factors. I'm glad that you love it. You're not alone. Sometimes it can be a little annoying (as a consumer) when you make a purchase, (such as the D90), then the D5000 comes out for MUCH LESS money....and has the same quality of video. NOT the end of the world....just annoying. Congrats on the 7d.

I certainly HOPE SO. (This would also mean that the bit rate would be the same as the 7d) :)

Nope, no reason to sell, unless of course it magically solves the aliasing and moire issue, in which case definitely.

I'm hanging onto the 7D until Scarlet comes along and then the 7D will more likely be my dedicated stills camera with Scarlet handling video.

Yeah, that's the same verbage for the 7D. It just means 29 minutes for standard definition.

Thanks Ian! That is VERY GOOD NEWS. (hopefully) It may mean that it has the same compression as the 7d. (Just to head off other unnecessary comments from others....) I know the 7d's compression isn't a "gift", but the same compression on a camera that costs half as much is CERTAINLY a "gift." We'll see...

I'm glad they threw in the still images, for a second I thought this was exclusively a video camera. Well done marketing department; you've proven once again that the consumer would be lost without you.

Impossible to truly tell, but on this video, with this recompression into Vimeo, under unknown lighting, it seems to appear that the dynamic range is less than on the 7d. What do you think?

Sorry Philiplipetz. I was being sarcastic. This is the weird aliasing problem that the 7d has. It's NOT just aliasing...it's delicious rainbow flavored! (blue in this case) Notice how the words are blue and black. When I first saw it, I wondered why her book had blue text as highlighting. But in the next shot (that is closer) you can see that it is only black text.

In the test footage the car mounted stuff seems pretty rough moving but rolling shutter doesn't seem as apparent. Especially the low wheel shot, it looks good. Maybe they had some crazy mounting system, or maybe it's more stable? Can't wait to see more tests with this camera, as I've waited on buying a 7D for a while now.

I downloaded the Vimeo version and watched several times. is it kind of soft to you? Even though it was saved as 3.34 Mbits/sec it...looks softish. And HHL I see what you are talking about. I saw that also...same issues as usual.

Yep...looks a little soft indeed. Geez I wish Nikon would get in the game. I'm 99 percent sure that I will buy this cam if someone else doesn't announce something more interesting...(GH2? D900? Sony Somthing-or-other?) We've still got a 2 year wait for Scarlet. So....if no-one else wants to make the jump on this....I will.

I'm probably with you on this. Been waiting to buy the 7D in case something comparable came out, and it looks like this may be it. BTW what's that link on the Amazon preorder?

Yeah,...looking forward to all those anamorphic T2i shots.

Me too! It's driving me NUTS to NOT be able to specify ISO, shutter speed, and aperture (without ring) on the D90. I shot more footage yesterday with the Lomo lens...I just wish I could be CERTAIN of the settings. (Manual settings) ...so....we'll see how this works out.
