Verlaine - Feature

I kind of like the grain. It gives it a certain character. I know in today's world, it's all about really clear HD images. And I'm right there with everyone. I just bought the AF100 so here's hoping that kicks butt and maybe we'll use it to shoot a couple of the pick ups we'll need. But I think we embraced the limitations of the camera and the budget and it made the movie better. So I think if we did some smoothing of the video it would lose a little bit of the soul. I guess that's a positive spin on it. :)

We initially were paying him, but we only had a certain amount of time scheduled in for the scenes. He asked if he could forfeit his salary so we could keep shooting with him. The guy just wanted to act. He was having fun and wanted to keep shooting his scenes, wanted to perfect them. So he donated his time.
He really wanted to please the director, which is an amazing trait to have as an actor. At the time I think he was still trying to shed some of his reputation, so being on set was important to him. Getting back in the grove was important to him. Overall he is was a really sweet guy.

We used minimum light setups. It was all stuff I owned, about 6 Arri lights total. But we only used a couple at a time. A lot of it was just shot with Natural light. I don't want to say how much we spent, but you couldn't buy a Range Rover with the budget.

I haven't really been showing the movie around so there's no interest aside from some of the managers and agents of the actors. A couple big production companies want to take a look. But that's a long shot. It's a small movie. Probably straight to DVD. So there are a couple interested people but there's no reason to send anything over until it's done. We've just been editing and editing. Took a break for a week to edit a trailer together.

I just checked out the trailer on my phone (can't watch the short on it though). It looks really good. This is a big budget type trailer. I was looking at it thinking, "This is a Hollywood film. This guy has real actors and everything, so of course it's going to be good." Then I read the thread and I see all that you did and how much you were paying your actors. I'm definitely impressed, especially considering that you shot it on the HVX at 720! Big thumbs up! One thing I would say about the trailer (and I'm not sure about this) is that the gunshot to the guy's head in the car might be a bit much for the general audience. I was thinking you could do a cut away from when he points to maybe a freeze frame B&W or something to after he's already shot or something to that effect. It's a good shot, so I would definitely keep it in there.

I had 2 Arri 650 fresnels and 4 300's. I rented a 1K a couple times too. Nothing too crazy.

Marlon, you are probably right. There's also an F-bomb in the trailer too.
