Vegas 8

USLatin

Panamaniac
It is about to be unveiled at IBC on Sept 7th.

William found this : https://cc.its.maine.edu/~maine/cart/look.php?item_id=4053463
which says that for $500 u'd get V8 with DVDachitect 4.5 and a MIXING CONSOLE! (not a hardware mixer, see post below)

Also, this guy found an article saying that Sound Forge will also be sold with Vegas?!?
http://dvinfo.net/conf/showthread.php?t=101179

All I want to know is if V8 will be 64-bit for sure, if it is sable with Vista 64-bit and if it will support Quads...

Anywho, if you guys have some info (links preferred) please share it here.

Just want to make sure everyone is on the same page here:

If I am reading this right, the "mixing console" is a software emulation of a hardware mixer. Similar to this from Cakewalk's Sonar audio program:

It works and looks just like a mixer you would put your hands on. IMO it makes mixing so much more intuitive with you are doing it in the computer. I hope this is what I am thinking of. Vegas will not come with an outboard hardware mixer for the price of $500.

I'm excited for V8.

crap, see thanks for clearing that up
any possibility of getting a hardware interface hooked up to Vegas 8?

And does anyone have links to some of the specs on V8?

After a quick read of that thread u linked to the Behringer BCF2000 seems like the cheapest way to get faders working in Vegas... $120 is a good price on Ebay, which is quite tempting!

http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=Behringer+BCF2000

Here is a guide made by a user about setting up this mixer with Vegas
http://www.whippey.eclipse.co.uk/BCFforVegas.htm

And a page by Sony about using the mixer with ACID
http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/download/step2.asp?DID=732

Now does anyone have other info on V8?

Thanks! They say it will come with Blue-Ray burning support!!!!

But only 32-bit? They say that the 32-bit floating point video processing is new? So I gues no need to upgrade to Vista and we should expect more performance.. but how much performance? Why not 64-bit??? Also, they list "enhanced video previewing" separately...

Nothing mentioned about Quad optimization

# New! ProType Titler
# New! Multicamera editing tools
# New! 32-bit floating point video processing
# New! Digital signage support
# New! Audio mixing console
# New! Enhanced video previewing
# New! Interactive tutorials
# New! Scripting extensions
# New! Blu-ray Disc burning directly from the timeline
# New! No-recompress rendering for Long GOP HDV
# New! XDCAM partial conform for FAM mode

32 bit floating point video processing????????????????
are you guys sure. I dont believe so
for 500 dollars,
thats highend online quality (quantel, smoke, fire< lumiere, assimilate, ) even ds and symphony don't have that.

thats just vaporware.

Here's the text:

"32-bit Floating Point Video Processing
Surpass traditional 10-bit standards with 32-bit floating point video processing. Take advantage of greater color range for more vivid colors, reduced gradient banding and posterization for smoother color transitions, linear light capability for optically correct compositing, and many other precision enhancements."

I can't say it's true but we'll all find when it's released in about a week.

from what you are saying and that being a retailer, and since I don't see any info directly from Sony, then I assume they either know something or they are trying to scam... I guess it would be a big deal if they did include that...

I mean... is it really that big of a jump? What does Edius use? Cause that thing is faaaast... and Sony matching Edius's engine isn't that big of a jump in terms of what giant SONY could do.... right?

Actually, 32-bit floating is used in After Effects. We had planned to do the color correction on our current feature in AE, but now with 32-bit in Vegas... this is a great move on the part of Sony. You should read "The DV Rebel's Guide" by Stu Maschwitz of The Orphanage and Magic Bullet. He has a wonderful description and breakdown of how to use AE for CC and the advantages of 32-bit floating.

I am not 100% on page then... what is 32-bit floating processing exactly and what does it enable?

Well, I'm not the best person to break this down for you, which is why I said read Stu's book, but it basically comes down to shades of gray and variations of color. Like going from 16 colors to 256 colors to thousands, and to millions. The more bits, the better an image looks, and more importantly, the better it will hold up as you begin to color correct and process it. Vegas had been limited by its 8-bit color space in that any CC done and any processing of the image would result in degradation and artifacting. That is no longer true with V8. If you read tutorials on color correction, one of the first things they tell you is to never manipulate an image in an 8-bit space. Now, with Vegas 8, people will not be able to say working with it will restrict them to a non-professional color space. For instance, Apple's new color correction software, Color, which was until this year a $25,000 application, works in a 32-bit float color space. Now Vegas does too.

ok, I get it it is the bit-rate of the chroma and luma values used by Vegas... great then... same reason I record 24/96 audio when possible, thanks

this from the same page:

HEY! Did u guys see this one:
"Adobe Photoshop layer support
For the ultimate in control over the appearance of your DVD project, you can
import an Adobe® Photoshop® (PSD) file to create menus, buttons, and more."

now all that I want to know is if V8 will be 64-bit compatible, Quad optimized and any faster...
they did list "Enhanced Video Previewing" but is there any additional info out there? anything a bit more specific?

I attended the Sony party at NAB earlier this year. They introduced and demonstrated their 64-bit version of Vegas. I don't know what's happened to it since?
