Vegas 8

Does anyone know if raylight will work with V8, I've just downloaded and installed the demo and it won't allow me to import any of my MXF's, I tried reinstalling Raylight but it didn't help.

Any idea's if and when it may work?

V8 will not recognize the Raylight plugin. Something changed in the way they register plugins. If you're a Raylight user I would put off upgrading to V8 until we can get this resolved. The Vegas people are out of town until the 11th, so it'll be a few days at least.

Here's a workaround for expert users until we can update the plugin:

This must be done after both Vegas 8 and the Raylight MXF plug-in have been installed.

1. Run regedit
2. Navigate to this folder: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony
Media Software\File Formats 2\{BE00A7E1-A0F6-11D4-B26A-00A0D2181960}

3. Right click on the folder, select Export, save to a file
named RaylightFix.reg

4. Open this file in Notepad. Change the text in the third line
to read Sony Creative Software instead of Sony Media Software (just
change the word Media to Creative).

5. Save the changes.

6. Double click on RaylightFix.reg in the Windows Explorer.
Answer Yes when you are warned about changing the registry and are
asked to continue.

7. Run Vegas 8 and it should now be able to open MXF files that
require the Raylight plug-in.

This also works in Vista 32, with additional
warnings about running regedit in steps 1 and 6 (must have
Administrator permission).

Thanks to Tracy at Sony Vegas for the info.

Will making this change to the registry disable use of Raylight in Vegas 7?

No

Essentially it copies registry info from Raylight into the Vegas 8 area, has no effect on Vegas 7 or earlier versions. I have a system here that is running Vegas 6, 7 and 8 all with the same copy of Raylight.

Excellent, Thank you for the quick response and for the great work with Raylight 3.0. Tried the fix, quick and easy, presto!

This part of the thread should be made into a new sticky - at least until DVFilm releases the update for Vegas 8. Amazing workaround. Thanks Marcus!!!

anyone here having issues with V8 crashing using cindform neo hdv clips

I want to add something here RE: V8 crashing, My problem has been when I use Cineform clips (avi) filmscan1 and put them on my timeline, I can save them to a veg. file if I don't render out. I renamed the cfhd.dll. thought it helped until last night. everything was OK until I rendered to a wmv HD file. I did multiple renders on this one veg. file. mpeg2 ntsc was ok, but after the wmv render same problem again, I could get the veg. file to open to 22% then crash, it hangs then all the files open, I click the pop up saying there is problem, crash. Using m2t clips are no problem at all. I tried to get V8 to crash, wouldn't. I can render them into anything and there is no problem. I can go back and put the cineform avi clips back on my timeline, re-do everything and that works, for a while. then crashes again. the computer I am on is a new clean install xp sp2 just for V8, so all programs are newly installed including NEO HDV. are my issues close to anyone else's issues? V7 no issues what so ever. To me, its between V8 and cineform.

No, this is new clean install with xp sp2 just for V8, thought I had problem fixed, but no, I still believe there is a V8/cineform NEO HDV issue, I have contacted cineform, they are real good about support, I contacted Sony a week ago, they suck. I have another computer, same setup, no problem yet. seems the problem starts after I render for few hours or so.

Raylight has now been updated for Vegas Pro 8. It's in release
folder 301-4. Get it at dvfilm.com/update

We also fixed the timecode problem with MXF files.

Anyone know if Vegas8 wil export a picture jpeg from the timeline as I like to make my DVD labels with a more peronal touch, thanks, Pud

PS: It says NEW 24p DVD, I thougth Version 7 did 24p already or is that Ver7 just 24p with 2:3 pulldown added ?
I assume by NEW 24p they mean 24p with no 2:3 pulldown added ?
