Capturing Live to Powerbook using FCP 5.0.4 succesfully
The footage is wrapped into a Quicktime/MOV format and can be replayed in Quicktime (seperately from FCP) no problem in OSX

HOWEVER, if/when you transfer same MOV file to Windows and play in Windows Quicktime, no dice - no play. Some Audio, blank screen.

I'm assuming the DVCPro codec for Quicktime gets installed in and around FCP install but ...
How do we make this codec available in Quicktime Windows. Which codec works to playback this HD footage in QT Windows.

Perhaps a directshow codec solution?

windows quicktime will only play HD footage if it's in the 264 codec I believe. I don't think the windows quicktime has native DVCPRO HD codec.... That's what I would figure as I've had this chat with another buddy.

Keep us posted and try exporting it as a 264...

Thanks. I'm trying not to have to recode the footage.

Wondering if there is a way to port the osx codec to windows. quicktime architecture should be identical. Anyone know the OSX files associated with the DVCPro codec?

I just ran into this problem today. HVX 720 24pn mode shoot. Edited in OSX Final Cut. The director exported as Quicktime and sent to me. I have Quicktime 7.1.3 Pro on a PC. Get the audio but no picture. Anyone figured this on out???

Yes. QuickTime on the PC does not include DVCProHD support -- I assume that's the codec that the file is in. You can press Ctrl-I to display the audio and video codec that are required.

Adobe / Serious Magic has a DVCProHD Decoder, but if you are only looking to play back the video on your system, it's kinda expensive ($200, I believe). It also won't let you encode to DVCProHD.

This has been reported extensively.

There is no default install of DVCProHD on Windows, even with QT Pro on Windows.

Unless you have a third party app as THoff indicates, you must encode DVCProHD footage from a Mac to a compatible windows codec, ie h.264, motionjpeg, etc.

What I don't understand is why the DVCProHD codec is not provided by Panasonic for use in QT in Windows as part of the install. At least give it playback capabilities.

CineForm claims to have a Mac version coming out soon that will solve this problem. Check with them.
