Vegas 8

I have a question for you MVB, since you might be one of the few that might be able to answer it. Actually, more than question I want to make sure I understand the following since I don't know enough to ask a specific question.

The way I understand it is that the added performance from Raylight comes from the codec since that is what each different color is, a different codec.

Also, where does the added performance in Vegas 8? And will we benefit from it while using Raylight or was that also performance coming from revised codecs? If it is in the way other things are managed we might get the two boosts in performance together when running Raylight in V8... is that the case?

I just want to get rough idea of how it all works.

Raylight codec is multithreaded (up to 8 CPUs right now) so with multiple processors you get a more balanced processor load when scrubbing or rendering a raylight timeline than you would with a single-threaded codec. The job of decoding the picture is divided evenly among the CPUs.

Hopefully the same idea is used in Vegas with the effects, etc. I don't know.

Hi, I am using the newest Raylight for Vegas 8, what does the various Blue Green Red buttons actuualy do ? Do they determine the quality of the preview screen window or do they actually determine the final render quality of say a MPEG2 render ? I ask, as I keep it set to AUTO Quality with NATIVE Frame Size.
I was shooting at 24pa (pa as Marcus told me too versus plain 24p) but I have now switched to 30p to hopefully decrease that artifact in the trees, most noticeable on pan shots with trees in the background. I shoot at DVCpro50 30p and edit on a 29.97 NTSC timeline in AVID which I then export the timeline as a Quick Time Reference file, I import that QT ref file into Vegas 8 pro and render using MPEG2, progressive at 29.97 with no pulldown inserted. The reults have been acceptable to me. I have TMPGE but it takes longer than Vegas 8 to render the MPEG2 when it is rendering a QT ref file.
Thanks

The Blue Green Red buttons have no effect in DVCPRO50.

If you're getting twitter in trees in DVCPRO50 try reducing the DETAIL setting, try -7 for a start.

Anyone have this Vegas 8 Pro problem: 4 or 5 times every project I get this error message "wanted a compression frame" while rendering a mpeg2 DVDarch template dvcpro50 on a 16:9 progressive timeline. When the error comes up the mpeg2 render halts and I have to click ok to get the error to leave (for awhile). I have since gone to Vegas 7 as it does not yield that 'wanted a compression frame' problem. Patrick

Huuuu
i make test with my new HVX200, it's really great...
I edit on vegas... and i actually try the raylight codec...
it's really good... but, i 've some questions...
The raylight plugins is full quality? no loose?
What is the recommnded configuration for real time on vegas with 1080i
i've Athlon X2 6000 with 8600 nvidia grafic card 4 gig of ram... it's like 17 frame / second with no effect... and the charge of the dualcore processor dont go full (like 60 % on the two)
the limitation is hard disk acces? ( Raid configured for backup 2x500gig samsung )
i've an other question about vegas, how make a good balanced preview in 1080
i've two LCD 22" so i can make a good preview but the 1080 is larger than i can view on one monitor...
You preview on HDTV? or expensive HD video screen?
can i convert the 1080i 25p (i'm in pal) in native 1080p in a easy way ?
i've a lot of artefac in 1080i on vegas (interlaced line in movement) how i can get this clean on computer (reduce interlace flicker don't work for me on vegas)
thanks ;)

I didn't have the best of times with XP64... Vegas worked just fine as far as I remember, but there are so many things that are not suported at all or will give you problems that you might want to stick with 32 if only doing it for the RAM. If you are only dealing working with Vegas then even more so, since there is no performance gains whatsoever to be had from more than 2GB in Vegas.

If Vegas worked faster in 64 then there would be a definite advantage but unfortunately it doesn't. It seems we need to wait for Bill Gates or some other big external force to push this non demanding consumer market into going through the switch to 64 or software developers will continue developing in the 32-bit realm for years... who knows how long. It makes me wanna break something.

So I've got version 7, and really am only interested in Version 8 because of the CC potential I've heard about.

If I were to download the trial version, is it a FULL WORKING version, and simply shuts down after 15 days, or will it have water marks on the image & beeps in the sound?

It is a full working version, no marks. Just in case check their site or get confirmation from at least one more person. Then after 30 days you can't run it in the same Windows installation until you buy it.

Thanks, since the CC is my only real draw to it, this would definitely be one of those "try before I buy" moments, and no better way than to try it than to use it to do the final CC of BERLIN .... but I don't want to import BERLIN into it (then having it forever saved as a Vegas 8 file - no longer working in Version 7) unless the trial was a full working version with no marks, beeps, etc.
