Vegas 8

WARNING: I just found out that if you download the online version of the upgrade for Vegas 8 you are supposed to get a activation number in your email, well guess what, 1/2 hr later still no email from SONY and I can't use the thing ! I should have spent the $15 extra and ordered instead the snail mail CD version, Patrick

THANKS !

I online chatted with SONY and they fixed my activation number issue but still no emails from them, they claim that some WW providers block their emails for some reason.

So let me get this straight. All this talk on their website about importing .MXF fiels and all HD formats and it...

CAN NOT import HVX files from a firestore?

Is anyone for sure on this?

Can not natively import any MXFs except Sony-specific MXFs.

David I'm going to argue with your use of the work native, because with Raylight you do have native import and editing of MXF files. Native usually means there is no trancoding process rather than a function requiring an additonal purchase. Perhaps what you mean is Vegas cannot import and edit Panasonic MXF files without buying a plugin.

Of course, Marcus. I read the question as asking if Sony itself had implemented P2/MXF support, which it hadn't.

You're about 75% correct but the Raylight plug-in was created with Sony-provided software and they helped in its development.

So is vegas 8 now compartible with Raylight? sorry if this has been mentioned already.
Thanks.

Hmmm. Then why don't they just take the next logical step? Not that I want to cut off an income stream of yours, but jiminy cricket.

Hey MVB... do you think Sony might support MXF in the future or could you guys sell them a lisence or something like it? Keeping the colors is a big deal for those of us who have tried them out.

It might be something that Sony needs to purchase from DVfilm? A license? Perhaps a fee per unit?

HOw could/will this turn out?

Not only would they need the plugin but a codec as well, and the Panasonic decoder is not good enough for rendering and doesn't encode either. It's much easier to have a specialist put it all together. Also when AVC Intra comes along, and then the next thing, etc its the same problem over again. With Vegas and Raylight you get the best of both worlds, a product combination that responds quickly to the market with a stable core editing system. I think it's much better than an editng system that tries to be everything and consequently crashes left and right.

I would prefer things stay the way they are right now. There are a lot of improvements coming down the pipeline for Raylight. We have an improved "Blue" in development that runs as fast or faster than Raylight Green, better metadata support, hardware acceleration, DVCPROHD quicktime authoring, and lots more. Those improvments will come faster if it remains a DVFilm product. I would just wish at this point that they would link Raylight on their website and give us some sort of semi-official status.

WHAT?!?!? BLue quality with Green or Green+ performance?!?

Duuuude... heeh... sweet!

What do you mean by "hardware acceleration"? You listed it separate so I guess it is an aditional performance boost besides the Blue improovement?

So you will be able to render a DVCPROHD QT right from Vegas?

The link on the Sony site might happen soon enough. Hope it happens for you guys! Raylight was some of the best spent cash when you cosider the level of commitment you guys have with it and the level of these developments.
