V8000hd

I did get the monitor, and... it just plain didn't work. Battery didn't work, monitor buttons didn't respond. So I sent it back and got it back yesterday. 2nd time around the battery still doesn't power it up. Looks like the connection is snug, seems like the charger I got with the kit is not working. However it does work with AC power.

Gotta tell you, I'm disappointed with the build of the monitor and the service that Ikan has provided. C'mon, the first time you send a product out, everything should work. The monitor will suit my needs for now, but when I'm able I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I had all kinds of problems with mine when I bought a 18 months ago. I finally bit the bullet and bought the Panasonic BT-LH80W. I've decided no more cheap gear. It seems I always get burned when I try to save! The price was hard to swallow at first, but not having any of the hassles I was having with my Ikan, it was worth the bucks.

Ikan shipped me a new out of the box charger. On a shoot last night plugged it in, and no charge. What's with these crappy chargers ?

Anyone using any other battery set ups that are more reliable?

thanks,
JP

good thing that they are nice people when comes to CS... because I've seen the frustration my buddy had in that he had to send 3 back in order to get one that worked.. and even then it wasn't all that reliable. When is someone going to make a sub 1000 dollar monitor that's decent. This is the largest market for this kind of thing.. I mean.. shoot, you can get a 42 inch HD for 700 bucks... surely someone out there could make a 7 or 8 inch for a grand and have it turn out to be halfway decent...

Recently bought ikan V8000HD and new sony 970 L battery. It says on a paper that this battery will run monitor for 3.5 hours but it is not. it works for about 45min and then it turns of, and it seems that monitor screen is heating to much, when you touch the screen it is very hot. Is it supposed to be this hot or?

I have to say...this Ikan thingie really sounds like it's got classic "el cheapo" DNA. Sorry for those of you who've been burned by it. Some more literally than others...

I don't think that it's possible for a manufacturer to make a reliable field monitor for <$1000 and be profitable. These aren't consumer tv's we are buying here, they're pro monitoring devices designed for critical focus, exposure, color, etc.

Keep in mind, 42" consumer TV's fly off the self of every Circuit City and Best Buy in the country - faster than they can unload them off the truck. I can't imagine the volume that moves through a consumer electronics store on any given weekend.

We however, are a niche group of pro's looking for consistently reliable gear that will withstand the riggers of often brutal field and studio work.

The bottom line still stands as true today as it did years ago - you get what you pay for. And by its very nature, this thread supports that school of thought.

Except RED from this truth. BUT THAT JUST CONFIRMS THE RULE.

Stay away from the V8000HD.. Also made the mistake of buying one and ran into the same issues. I'm in the process of returning mine and getting me a Marshall!

my v8000hd (first retail unit off the line) still works flawlessly. as does my firestore. maybe im just lucky or i guess i just have good karma. ; )

My V8000HD and Firestore work just fine... I power both with an MP3450 battery.

My Letus35 Extreme, on the other hand, still doesn't really work.
