C100: Using Canon EOS M as a 2nd camera to match C100

Hi All,

I'm seeing Canon EOS M cameras land on Ebay for $200-250 and was wondering if anybody has tried use one as a "B" camera to edit into a piece to match their C100? The EOS M is a cool little pocket camera that can has interchangeable lenses and records HD. It's such a small camera, I could see where you could throw it in with your C100 and be able to grab an extra angle during an interview or event.

Thanks,

Scott

I have a few EOS-M's. I tend to use them for timelapse or as plant cameras for events in conjunction with magic lantern for auto restart, interlovometer, focus aids and such. The video is just like any other older crop frame Canon DSLR. Soft, lower DR, noisy above about 800ISO, aliasing. If you know that your output is primarily going to be for the web and streamed at less than 1080p, the EOS-M is very useful. The IS on the EF-M lenses is also fantastic. In fact, the 18-55 has the same dynamic IS as on the 18-135 STM and is meant for being able to walk with the camera. Wide angle shots where you want a lot of detail are going to suffer compared to the C100. Also, battery life is pretty poor.

I've shot entire pieces on EOS-M. For Canon APS-C, it does surprisingly well at 1600ISO, though I usually try not to shoot that high if I don't have to.

It has the same image sensor as the T5i, and can make a very nice image. They're hitting eBay on the cheap now that the EOS-M3 is out (M2 was not released in the US).

I went down this route too. I believe magic lantern only works on the first version, so if you want an intervalometer than that's the one you'd want. I bought it for 2nd cam, BTS & timelapses.
