Hi Everyone,
Thanks for this very useful forum. I spend most of my time lurking and learning, but hopefully someday I'll have something to contribute.
I primarily use my T2i for photography, but I've just begun exploring video. (Magic Lantern is amazing.) It's a tough transition from camcorders, but I think I'll be better for it.
Right now I have a rather technical question. A few weeks ago I purchased a generic AC adapter on ebay (CA-PS700 equivalent), with a DC coupler (a plastic imitation battery - DR-E8 equivalent) that fits into the battery case to power the camera from an outlet. It just arrived from China, and, unfortunately the AC adapter is dead.
The coupler is fine, though - I was able to test it by hooking it up to a universal AC adapter and powering up the camera.
I have an event I'd like to videotape with the T2i in less than a week, so I'm tempted to use the universal adapter with the coupler to record. But the Canon AC adapter is rated 2.0 A, and the universal adapter is rated only 600 mA.
My understanding is that an underpowered adapter will heat up and eventually fail if the device it is powering tries to draw more amps than it can provide. Can anyone who knows the T2i well tell me if this is likely? The 600 mA universal adapter works well enough for a 5 or 10 minute test, and doesn't seem to be getting hotter....
Thanks in advance,
Brit
