Using 7D in 480i broadcast TV show

Hey all,

so my company shoots a TV show using HVX200s at 480i for SD broadcast. It's cut on Avid MC5. The producer wants to try using my 7D for some B-roll shots, so my question is, is there a way to properly transcode my 7D footage into standard 29.97 interlaced video to match the 480i HVX video for SD broadcast?

Thanks,
Jordan

If you want to keep the "reality" look of 60i then you should shoot 720p60 on the 7D...however be waned the aliasing in moire is much worse in 720p mode. Otherwise you could use 1080p30 which will have a hybrid look. As far as transcoding goes, you should just be able to drop the footage on the timeline and the program should interlace the footage on the output.

How about the 640x480 mode? I don't think I ever tried it, I don't know if it's any good or not, but ... if it is, it might be a good match, no?

I think I would rather shoot 1080 and transcode down....
What I have shot in 4:3 on the camera (very little) was quite noisy and nasty....

I use a 60D mixed with hmc150 for local broadcast. I shoot at 1080 30P. Never had any problems squishing it down to a 16x9 SD for delivery to the station.
