yeah, its cool we are returning it to the place she got it. its called infinity video. i never heard of it but we are going to return it and either get a used dvx100a off ebay, or a dvx100b for a good price off ebay

Yesterday a friend was proudly showing me the dv camera package she got her boyfriend for Christmas...didn't come with a memory card, battery extra, a/c power adaptor extra, came with a box of lens-cleaning tissues, a carry-bag and a teeny little tripod, and she "got it for a great price!"

Asked her, 'did you order this from some place in New York City?'

"Yeah! How'd you know...?"

I was joking...the gl2 is a fine cam-especially for a x-mas gift. Also, it seems as if you're having enough trouble getting the local stores to sell you the right product. I would steer very clear from ebay.

i understand the gl2 is a good camera, it just isnt what im looking for. the reason there was a mix up is cause my mom called some company and the guy tricked her saying the gl2 is better than the dvx cuase they didnt sell the dvx.

Chris save yourself and your Mom some time and order from a good company like EVS or you will just get ripped off again.

Yes the GL2 is probably a good camera but not for $3600. Hopefully you can get your money,,,,your Mom's money back without a big hassle.

Tell the guy at invinity video your going to post his companies name all over the intenet as a rip off business. Demand your money back.

Good luck. If nothing else you have a GL2!!

very true, on evs, does it come with all of the accesories for the camera, like a battery, charger,etc.. i checked but didnt see it anywhere

all camcorders should come with a battery, chargers, some cables. If it doesn't ,,,don
t buy it.

I'll sell you my "only slightly possed" DVX100A. :-)

P.S. -- I hope that you sounded more appreciative to your Mom, rather than the spoiled brat that you sound here. I paid for my gear with every penny of my own money, and am now broke to show for it.

The guys Mom got ripped off. So what if he is pissed off. Doesn't make him a spoiled brat.

i think no pun is saying that he hopes his reaction to his present wasn't as severe as it was on dvxuser, for his moms sake. His mother spent a lot of time and money trying to figure out what he wanted, and was off by an inch. I would have been so ****ing happy to see production gear there, and would worry about reselling it for what i really wanted later.

honestly he sounds like a little *****. just one mans opinion.

Personally, I'm a little torn here. For starters, I totally have to honor and respect PK's take on all of this. In fact PK, you have a great story and I appreciate you telling it. I think we all could use a wake up call every now and again. Greed, money, gear lust...they are all very seductive.

On the other hand, in Chris's defense, he is in a position to receive a very pricey gift. For all we know, his parents are well off and have always been. He may not know what it is like to only get socks on Christmas. And, if you ask anyone who does only get socks on Christmas, chances are they'd much rather get a DVX. So, we can't fault him for that. I'm 34. And if my mother was rich and dropped a wad of cash down to buy me a new car, I'd take it. I'm weak.

So, I guess what I am trying to say is that PK, I agree with you wholeheartedly. I just wish I could be more like you.

The one thing I don't understand is if this dude's mom was RIPPED OFF by WAY overpaying for a GL2 then why does everybody want to let the store get away with that? If he can get the cam he really wanted for the same price then why support a criminal action of a salesperson just to keep this kid humble?

If the kid expressed a deep thankfulness to his mom and just kept the GL2 which cost his mom the same cash as the DVX then this kid would be an idiot.

Spoiled or not don't just sit back and let your mom get ripped off. If nothing else you owe it to your MOM to get HER money's worth.

Let's suppose I come from a very wealthy family and I CAN choose what I want for Christmas... and I chose a pair of socks... just kidding, I choose a Lexus. Let's say my mom doesn't know cars whatsoever... she goes to get me the Lexus and the salesman doesn't have any so he just sells her a really nice Mazda instead... like a fully loaded 6 or something. Would I love the car? Yeah... would I express appreciation? Yeah... would I enjoy the car knowing that my mom paid the SAME price for this thing as she would have paid for the Lexus... which is NOT ONLY a much better car but it is ALSO the car I asked for?

No. Spoiled or not. His mom was taken for a sucker. Fortunately it's a lot easier to return a camcorder then it is a car. I would go back to that store with fire in my eyes over this.

Personally I don't think the GL2 is within an inch of a DVX anyway. I have a friend locally that I do corporate stuff with and she has a GL2... I know all about that cam. Nice long zoom... advantages over a DVX end right there. After that there is NO comparison. At equal cost? No way.

I guarantee I'm one of the poorest guys on this board... but I'm speaking from logic, not emotion.

EDIT: I should add that the kid has proven that he can do quality video. Why not give him the better tool at the same price? Early on the guesses were that this kid would toss the cam in the closet anyway... but after seeing his stuff I think he'd get as much use out of the cam as any of us.

6 months from now when all the emotion of the moment dies down... if this kid kept the GL2 based on guilt or wanting to honor his mother in this moment... he would be such a sucker. We'd all be entering some DVXuser contest and Chris would be like "hey guys look at my project... I can do good video" and we'd say "sorry kid... exibition only... no prizes... come back when you get a DVX".

Reminds me of the guy who gave Mark McQuire his record breaking baseball back at the game. This kid was a f*cking VENDOR making $7/hr... I wonder where he is? Everybody thought that was SO cool at the time... everybody but ME!!! I was SCREAMING at the TV as Mark just takes the ball and gives the kid a little rub on the head. "Enjoy your life of poverty kid... at least you looked like a nice guy for this ONE DAY." The guy that started the comic Spawn bought one of the balls for some crazy millions of dollars figure. Meanwhile what's his name DOPE is probably mopping a 7-11 right now.

Fortunately for YOU Chris this isn't THAT important... but at the SAME cost you gotta' do the smart thing here because nobody will remember this thread in 2 weeks.

Matt, while I appreciate your comment, for me the one thing that continues to ring out in this thread is just that spoiled attitude. It is a king baby mentality of 'i want what I want when I want it, and I want it now'.

I liked the honesty and integrity of PK's post, but the one thing that just rings out for me is that I am jealous and that makes me pissed off. I saved for six months in order to buy my DVX. It bothers me that there are people out there who just ask for it and get it. That has nothing to do with Chris and the question as to whether or not he is spoiled or as to the level of gratitude that he shows for his gift.

At the end of the day, I am jealous that I worked, saved, ate Ramen noodles, and sacrificed in order to buy something, and it pisses me off that someone else just asked for it. That is not his issue, it is my issue.

That's all I want everybody to admit Yankee. Trust me, I'm jealous also... I was jealous when a highly regarded member ran a thread about "what $45K vehicle should I choose" and at the end of the thread says "you don't think I'm really that dumb do you?" So what was the point? Every time I start my truck it's like a slot machine and I'm whispering "no wammies... no wammies".

Everybody loved that thread because we all sorta' know and like the people behind it.

There are a lot of people in the world with serious means... and this is why they keep to themselves... you can't let feelings of jealousy determine your behavior towards others or you are destined to a life on one level.

You gotta' compartmentalize thoughts and discard anything that's not productive when you can. Sure it's easier said then done... but them's the breaks.

You don't have to admire the kid... but if you're going to be a fair judge then you don't have to condemn him either. The kid is actually irrellevant in this situation. It would be a crime to let the opportunistic salesman win.

aha! God I know that feeling. Matt, if it makes you feel any better, I am probably as poor as you. In fact, we should probably start a thread entitled "Who are the most financially pathetic DVXuser members over 30?". It'd probably make us feel better while bringing a bit of comic relief. I know money itself can't make you happy. But it sure as hell can take away a lot of what makes you unhappy.

but, now back to the kid...I don't feel I missed the point about the A-hole salesman. Of course, they should be strung up. I just think people in general were looking past that and critiquing the kids attitude towards getting the wrong $3600.00 gift. Jealous? I think some are. I think some are not. As for me, I cant begrudge a kid of accepting a gift of that size. What 16 year old would turn it down? I wouldn't. Unless it was given to me by someone who really couldnt afford it.

But, I think this thread NEVER would have had the life it has if the kid worded his opening paragraph differently. Instead of complaining about what he didnt get he should have lambasted the salespeople for what he did get. I think that might have directed any of the negative energy this thread has caused towards the A*shole salesman.

That pretty much sums it up - You are being honest at least and that's cool. Calling someone spoiled because they can receive a big expensive gift is unfair! No matter what peoples means are they always spend more then they have and I hate that about Christmas. If someone spends $100 on a gift they can't afford to spend it's wrong IMO. This guys mom wanted to buy him a camera and there is NOTHING wrong with that! Calling him spoiled is petty. She got shafted and he was disappointed - SO WOULD I!!!! I'm sure she thought a camera is a camera. I worked hard for my camera but that does not make it more deserved.

You guys are all over this kid because nobody gave you your camera. Life's a ***** ain't it!

Everyone here calling him a spoiled brat take back all your presents and give the money to charity... Or STFU!

I don't think he should keep the GL2. He WOULD be an idiot. I'm saying that anybody who gets a GL2 and is SUPER bummed might be a bit spoiled. Not that theres anything wrong with being spoiled. Some years I get spoiled, some years I don't. If Chris was in fact really bummed, but explained it to his mom in a way that she understood that he really appreciated her regardless, then I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I think he brought on a bit of backlash because of how his first post was worded, it kinda made him sound ungrateful to his mom's efforts. But he did say that he explained everything to his mom and she is cool. So I don't think there is any harm done.
