So I am currently, and have been for the last 3 hours, rendering a 30 second clip on my dieing acer laptop. I shot some footage with my dvx to try out some different settings. The SD footy can be viewed at: www.youtube.com/bmxmonk.

I am going to upload the HD version on vimeo tonight sometime. No real reason for any of this, I just havnt been shooting nearly enough so I figured id put something together super quick. Next time im bringing out the sticks. Ef handheld.

Oh here is the link to the footage.

I shot with a high detail level in camera because I knew I was going to uprez to 720. I opened up a 720p timeline dropped the footage in. Scaled it up to fit, applied some anti aliasing, sharpening and a little contrast boost. Then I exported mpeg 2 with noise reduction at 10 bit with a minimum bitrate of 8. Its not practical with my current setup to do that for anything as it takes a really long time to render on my p.o.s laptop. However if you have the time and power, dvx footage can hold up at 720p HD. So you dont need to go out any buy some poopy HDV cam just yet. I personally am holding until scarlett before I make any HD descisions.

I asked about unprezzing recently, and everyone was like so anti unprezzing I would like to start experimenting with it, what is ur experience with it outside of doing it for web features, like using it for I gues hdvd output and things of that nature.

Man, that clip was nice!
Thanks for that info. I'll be experimenting soon and I'll be taking this into consideration. Thanks again.
Oh, and did you shoot 30p or 24p?

I was shooting 24pa and I have no experience with exporting to blu ray hddvd etc. This is the first time I have tried this. I am thinking this method of uprezz would be great for a short even to normal dvd. I also imagine that a nice upscaling dvd player would do a great job with this footage. Then again this is all just me thinking.

Boosted the detail level to 5 coring to 3 chroma up a bit non cinelike gamma 24pa squeeze. This is all off the top of my head, I am currently to lazy to get my camera and check the settings. I knew that upscaling the footage was going to soften it, so I didnt mind boosting the detail level, added some small amount of sharpening in post as well.
