uprezed and using Neat Video

Good results
Yes it does looks more......neat!

I would definitely say it looks better then the first version.

btw, have you ever tried uploading the original footage?
why do you want HD out from the dvx?
I've never been disappointed with the DVX look

I just wanted to see what was possible with DVX footage uprezzed. I probably won't do it again. I like the straight DVX footage also. This was 30P with cine set at Norm so it looked almost like standard video.

I was impressed with how much Neat video cleaned up the original avi file. I didn't realize how much noise was present until I applied Neat Video.

Neat Video is $99. There is a long thread about it on the Forum. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=123997

After editing the footage I took the resulting avi file and applied Neat Video.
Then I scaled that up to 1280x720 and made another avi file.
80% of the noise reduction occurred on the 1st file.
Then a MP4 file at 8000 KBits.

Not sure what you mean by broadcast. I took the original 720x480 avi file and scaled it up to 1280x720 avi which made a huge file. Then for upload to Vimeo I made a much smaller compressed file. I was experimenting to see what quality the image would have on Vimeo.

Generally SD video you just leave it as SD. When you uprez SD video your just doubling the pixtels. It won't ever be HD video. It's kind of cool for Vimeo because you get a bigger picture.

I've been trying to get a clean uprezzed video for Vimeo upload. I just purchased Neat Video and it made quite a difference.

Is the original version available somewhere? I'd like to see how well neatvideo works but it's tough to judge without having the before and after footage to compare.

the first version was a video he uploaded just scaling it to 720 using AE (correct me if I'm wrong)
the video just didn't look good so he used the plug-in from Neatvid and I thought it looked better then the first version. (the first version meaning the upscaling using AE)
so that's what I meant.
I never saw the original footage from the dvx so I would like to see the original footage too!

Got it! Thanks ryvac. I actually found the other thread (I think) with the previous AE uprezzing, but the video link has been removed.

Now that NeatVideo is available for FCP, I'm going to download it and check out the demo but yeah, I'd love to see a side-by-side before and after results that people are getting.

I just uploaded another version of the file to Vimeo. This time it's a MP4 at 8000 KBits.
For comparisons sake I'll upload a short piece of the original captured video and then the same clip with Neat Video. Nearly all of the noise was reduced in the original 720x480 avi file. The upscaled version didn't need it much.

Thanks commalot.

So is there a suggested workflow for this if you're planning on uprezzing? Is it better to clean it up with NeatVideo before uprezzing, so you don't end up uprezzing the noise? Or is it better to clean it up after uprezzing because maybe NeatVideo can make the uprezzing look better?

Also, did you uprez with AE? Happen to do any comparisons doing it with AE versus instantHD or FCP or anything else? I have Boris Continuum which, I think, also has an uprezzing feature in it. I'm just curious if you tried more than one uprezzing option and determined that one worked better than others.

Thanks
