Working with HVX and Final Cut Studio.. Just making sure thing are working properly for people on Leopard..

I don't see any post with problems, but I'd like to verify this.. As I'm being forced to upgrade due to the new iPhone SDK requirements..

thanks.

Backup or clone your boot drive, and do a clean install of Leopard with updates and FCS2 with updates.

Stay away from QT 7.4. You can download 7.3.1 at Apple's web site

I've now read a number of comments about QT 7.4. I've been using it with FCS2 on Leopard and haven't had any problems.

Can someone elaborate on the problems QT 7.4 is posing?

TIA.

Having just purchased OS 10.5 I can safely say, DON'T. I upgraded because I thought I had to but I had nothing but problems with other software not working or being extremely buggy. QT 7.4 is something to stay away from. Of course I am using older versions of software like Photoshop 7 AE 5.5 and so on. I have finally after four days of headache made it back to a stable work flow. So if you don't have to upgrade don't, and on that note anyone want to buy my OS 10.5? Right now I run OS 10.3.9 with FCP 5.0.4 DVD Studio Pro 2 and it all works flawlessly, NOW.

OS 10.3.. Photoshop 7.. FCP 5.04..Well.. Yeah your software is a little old, so it's not surprising that you may have some problems... Im using the latest version of all software I have, so from what I can tell things are working. Im going to give it a try...

Tx all.. Ill report back next week after I have time to do the upgrade...

OLD! Why you young punks these days with your giga this and tera that. I remember in my day....
:)

As long as you don't go past QuickTime 7.3.1 you should be fine.
You'll need to do a software update when you're done to have the latest versions of FCS2.
For instance Compressor doesn't seem to work on my machine with 10.5 unless it's 3.0.2. The earlier version which is on my install disks will not run at all in Leopard, at least for me.

But everything runs fine in 10.5 for me and I've done a couple projects in FCP since I've upgraded.

ya mdk is right on. if you have to upgrade then don't sweat it. you'll be fine but if you don't, then don't. tiger is more stable at the moment. i recently bought a new mac pro 8 core and had plans to ditch leopard and install tiger but turns out you can't. it's the first time i've known apple to do this. kinda pisses me off actually. so long story short, i'm running leopard and it's working but if i had the choice......

Yeah, I found that to be annoying also. Usually Apple will make things backwards compatible but 10.5 won't run on my G3 power book that I use for dumping footage in the field. Why use an ancient G3? Well it was cheap and it works, has a built PCMCIA slot, 500mghz chip speed, DVD rom, firewire, yahda yahda yahda. Apples new operating systems have always been notorious for bugs. In my opinon Apple should have made 10.5, which is a really streamed line OS, capable of running on older machines like my G3. Oh yeah, and in my day we would wear an onion on our belt, it was the style at the time.:)

If you aren't running the latest versions of FCP, PS, and AE, then you probably should stay away from Leopard.

In other words, if it isn't broken, don't fix it.

Everything's running fine on my macpro tower with all latest software. Kona LH has a recent driver update. The Desktop Graphics update after Leopard seemed to break many things too. But I'm running clean & clear.
