Untitled Vampire Hooker Project

I might try and shoot the first weekend of October, which would probably be for 2 days, so Oct 3 and 4. I have to check with Geoff and see if he's available...

I'll let ya know...

It's easy: Just do all the things you wish directors had done for you while you were acting in their films.

Yeah, I think the directing part will be ok...

I really want to get into the acting / directing at the same time thing and what better way than to start off with a short film (and a great team!)

TODO: Read these books (which I own but have never read):
- Directing Actors (Judith Weston)
- The Film Director's Inuition (also Judith Weston)
- First time director: How to make your breakthrough movie
- Film Directing shot by shot
- Film Directing Fundamentals
- Directing the film (Eric Sherman)
- Short Films 101
- The Film Director Prepares ( Myral A. Schreibman)

I've acted in just about everything I've ever shot, and I've always been happy (given whatever constraints were in effect at the time of the shoot) with the results. I know you'll do great Tom.

The last short I did a couple of years ago was a pretty big production. I got a permit, had full insurance, rented a place for a week for the shoot, had a pretty big crew and a lot of actors/extras. I also rented a bunch of gear w/ a 1/2 ton grip package, got the rental truck, picked up the rented camera from the owner, and a bunch of other details. And while shooting, I could have definitely seen myself playing one of the lead roles (and really wanting to) while directing.

A few of the shorts I've been in, I kind of wanted to take the reigns and direct. I think I would have done an OK job.

Another thing is, this is a light comedy. It's nothing really dramatic, so I'm not too worried about the characters as much as if it were a heavy drama...

Bottom line is, this is something I really want to try and do. Hopefully it will be OK, but like Jai said, as long as everything is in place, we should manage to make something that isn't horrible... lol

And Jai, thanks dude...

Good advice!

And thanks...

I really want to do both. Even if it's a complete disaster, at least I'll have accomplished what I set out to accomplish... :)

From TO to NY to LA...man you guys are gonna get sick of seeing me.....

That I highly doubt....

We have a tentative shoot date of October 3rd and 4th. Hopefully that will work, but Geoff might have a paying gig during those days...

When will you know for sure. I want to make sure I have those days blocked off at work (yes, this far in advance).

Shawn, out of curiosity, in what capacity were you directing? Were you setting up shots yourself or did you rely on a DP to handle that for you?

How much were you involved with actually focused on technical details while shooting?

How much pre-production did you do? Did you do storyboards and everything? My goal is to have everything planned out in such detail that Geoff will be able to just set up the shots based on storyboards (and some discussion of course).

Did you do any rehearsals? If so, how many?

Good thoughts Tom. I was at such an early point that I did not do that level of production, it seems your head is in the right place, I am looking forward to the results!

Tom just go with it we are all here to learn and it sounds like you got this licked already. Have fun and remember we are all here for you as well.
