Under/Over-cranking & T-stop

Just thinking about setting my stop while over-cranking. When setting the in a 48fps situation a person will have to be open 1 stop more then at sync or conversly close a stop at 12fps. I am sure everyone can figure out their stop needed fairly easy. It would be nice if The monitor and outputs truely displayed what the picture would look like at what ever frame rate you have set. Is this how it will work or will you have to adjust your stop according to the frame rate you set and not the monitor?

I am a film guy switching to my Red so I am a little unsure at times exactly how video reacts. Maybe you dont have to FPS T-stop compensate at all for video??

There's a bit of discussion about this here:

The topic is about ramping, but deals with adjusting for off-framerates.

We don't really know what the GUI looks like/will include yet, but I know RED is listening and I'm pretty sure they are going to give us everything they are able to. The monitor should definitely display the adjustments you make (you're seeing what the sensor sees), and if you need to check it, the beauty of digital is instant review/playback.

Prepare to be spoiled. :-P

Yes. :) Click the search button and choose "advanced search" and you can search for "zebra" in the RED forum and display "as posts" to see the content of every mention of zebra.

Thanks for this Haakon, I had read this earlier actually and it doesn't touch that much on my question but I am sure you knew that it only touches on the fringes of my question.

What I don't get is all the excitement about ramping? I have not ramped a film camera on anything with any kind of budget in years. Sure if you don't have much film then I would ramp but instead for a long time now I have let that Arri 435 rip at 150fps and pick where ever I want the ramp and what ever time variable and max frame rate to the 150fps I want. When I want a Ramp shot I will shoot at 60fps to give me the max options in post. Why not there is no film cost and other then filling memory time up I see no downside.

Well, for one, if you want the effect, there's no higher quality way to do it than to truly ramp it in realtime. But you're right, with everything we're able to do digitally these days, it's not as big a deal. Slowing down footage aritficially always looks magnitudes worse than speeding it up. Initially, you could do some cool things with Varicam that you weren't able to do before in a digital camera, and not all of those features (specifically, the ability to ramp) ported over to the HVX. So getting that back again is nice. It was just never really officially talked about as an official feature for RED, so for it to just "pop up" in discussion was kinda a cool surprise. Then, when thinking about all of the cool information that the RED camera's monitor could possibly display, it's fun to play "what if." That being said, no, I don't think most people are going to spend their time ramping. :)

One way to overcome this is to set the shutter at 1/48 sek instead of 180 degrees. If the shutter opening is constant, then the exposure will be constant.
You will experience more motion blur at 48 fps and slight strobing at 12 fps than at 180 degrees, 24 fps looks normal

Hey Anders

Ya changing the shutter does work but It is just as easy to adjust the stop and not have as much of the blur or strobe. What I am more concerned about is as you change the fps will the monitors/viewfinder change accordingly or will you have to adjust your stop over or under exposed to be able to get the correct exposure when you roll.
