Are there anyplaces that offer the XL2 for under 3000 dollars?

and if not, does the canon xl1 shoot 24p and native 16:9?

Do you guys know of any place I can get a Canon XL2 for under 3 g's?

If not, what do you guys think about the Canon XL-1 / XL-1s? Does it shoot in native 16:9 and 24p? If you guys have any info, pls let me know. Thankx
 
No, the XL1 and XL1s do NOT shoot native 16:9, or 24F. I shot on those damn camera's for far too long. I now own one XL2 and a DVX100a.

The XL2 is a HUGE impovement over the XL1(s). It's really like a different camera, and that's a great thing. The only initial reason I got the XL2 was because I needed the 20x zoom. Well, now I'm glad I went with it, as it's turned out to be such an improvement over the previous XL series camera's. Don't bother with the XL1s... save your money and, if you really want an XL2, get it, but I'd be looking at the XH-A1 if I were in your shoe's. I'll probalby sell off the XL2 within the next six months and pick up the A1.

I'm pretty sure the XL1s does 16:9 but it doesn't do any type of 24 anything. Yes the XL2 is better in a few regards but I still like the images my XL1s produces, just look at 28 Days Later, 99% of it was shot on XL1s (with some really nice lenses... I admit)

No, the XL1s does not have the capability of shooting 16:9, the XL2 shoots 16:9.

Yeah, but should I go with a DVX100A or a Canon XL1s? Man IM SO CONFUSED!!! So many choices!!

Go with a DVX100A, it's all around better camera. Although, if you could find an XL2 for the same price, I'd go with the XL2.
 
The DVX has proven itself to be the better of the bunch. The XL2 is nice but just doesn't cut it against the DVX.

Colorwise I agree but when you need 16x9 it creates a lot better image. Trust me. I worked with both on projects that were intended for 16x9 and the DVX lack of true 16x9 resolution really hampered it. The XL2 may not have the color curves of the DVX but it makes up for it in spades with more clarity in 16x9.

If 4x3 is your only target then DVX would be the best choice.

Show us the footy that supports these claims that the XL2 ever shines over the DVX100. Mor rez, 16x9, tweaked curves in post .......

Yes, the XL2 is a lot sharper and you get better resolution. That's why I am choosing the XL2 over the DVX. If I want a more "film look" then I'll shoot film, if I want great lookin' video then I'll choose the XL2. The dvx doesn't look like film anyway( I mean it does come close but no cigar), of course I've yet to see video that does looks like film. Except for the Varicam and Cinealta of course. :)

That being cleared up; to this day (let the trumpets roar) I can not see how one chooses an XL2 over the DVX100.

And I'm still waiting for that really good looking XL2 footy to surface. I've seen the best of the bunch on both sides; and the DVX100 is the clear cut stud.

Resolution ? Neglible when comparing these 2 cameras.
 
I'm on Hudson's side with this one.

I've seen nice footy from both cameras but I guess it's a matter of taste because the DVX satisfies me more then the XL2.
 
Yeah, the DVX does have that filmic look to it. I guess the fact that the XL2 has more resolution is why it appeals to me so much, and it's native 16:9. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Bah! It's not that expensive compared to the huge amounts of cash people are pouring into these new cameras(HVX, A1, H1, 100B ect...). So, I don't agree no one can affort it, on the contrary.

Yeah, plus all the manual controls are a very nice feature. I'd rather use hardware to adjust the color of my image, in the XL2.
